You guys are assuming they didn't need clean shorts, I bet at least there was some staining goin on. Shows how bad it can go quickly.

The PH really screwed the pooch on this one. He should have had his client put a follow-up shot into the lion right away or he should have done it himself. He almost got both his client, his staff, and himself killed. This is one of the most dangerous animals on the planet.

;)Had the exact same thing happen to me, only it was a gray fox, unwounded(the most dangerous kind), charged from 4 paces, got to me about the time I was getting to my feet (my position was such that I was out of position for the shot). Anyway, he comes hard, he is on my leg (actually just nipped my camo about calf high)after what seems like an eternity of mauling (actually by my sons account, more like 1 second), he left me for dead and was killed while retreating, by my son. Of course I later died of the mauling and was burried a couple of years ago. Thats my story and I'm Sticking to it. Only thing worse then a African lion or an SW Gray would have to be the dreaded wounded PD of Eastern NM. ;D

Absolutely COOL! Hate to say it but it looked like a canned hunt. Yes they have them over there. But regardless what a rush.

we got into quite a catfight about this on another sight. Is it canned? What are all the other people doing there? Why wasn't there a follow up? What part of Africa where they in to find maned lions of that quality? I finally got sick of all the arguing and sent the outfitter an email with some questions, I'll let you know what, if anything, their reply is.

I wasn't trying to start an argument! Just a statement. You can't take anything away from the charge film footage.
Yes it was a perfect lion, credits say RSA. Not much lion hunting in RSA unless bought and released.

I have been having computer problems and finally got this file downloaded. First of all it was an adrenalin rush to watch that big cat make a charge. That is something we don't have here in Texas. Guess a big bear charge up north would provide the same type of peril. I agree with Bob. An immediate second shot was in order to drop the dude. Now I know where the expression "the heart of a lion" comes from. Wow!!! Fair chase versus canned hunt? I wasn't there and I don't have all the facts, but I don't think it really matters at this point. The Lion is dead and his head is mounted on a wall somewhere. Someone told me once that in order for a Zulu to achieve manhood he had to kill a lion with a spear. Now I understand the significance of this act. (maybe that's why there aren't as many Zulus as there would otherwise be.. ) - and the shooter (he was definitely a shooter but maybe he wasn't a hunter) is probably embellishing the story each time he tells it. BTW - how much would a hunt for a trophy, maned lion like that cost? $25,000?? $40,000?? more??
