Kelly most of our dog towns provide shots in that range but we have private land that we setup a stand on with a large backstop. Most any land can provide the distance but the backstop is key.

Kelly, There are several 1000yd ranges in Central/Northern Texas. TacPro in Stephenville. LT Dillon right outside of Waco, but I think they went out of business. The nicest one I have been to is the range on Ft. Wolters up in Mineral Wells. I used to drive all the way to Raton, NM and shoot at Whittington Center. That's a beautiful range, but it's a LOOOONNNNGGG way from Austin, TX. There is a 500 meter (550yd) range just outside of New Braunfels. Once I get moved back up to the Dallas area I am going to join out at the Ft Wolters Club. www.fwssc.org There are some more in South Texas but I don't know where.

How tight of a patter can you shoot at that range? How much drop are we talking about out past 800 so yards? How would say a .257 roberts do at those distances. I really like to shoot long distance but I consider over 300yd a long distance. What are your favorite rifles for those long shots?

Doc, that'd be great!! CD, where on 46 is the range you are talking about?? Is it east or west from NB? Thanks for the info Shooter! My sister is a corporal or sargeant for Erath Co. and I bet she uses TacPro, I'll have to ask her!

Cojay, In pdog shootin 300 is pretty much a close shot long about august, really it is a long ways, but when you start shootin at longer ranges on the pdogs the 200 to 300 yarders seem to come easy, that is from a table, drive bys are a little different. On a good day I can hit some with my 22 mag at those ranges, trick is too shoot and elevate til your there, but then pdogs are rather abliging that way.

coojay,
If you give me the Manuf of the bullet, bullet type, bullet weight and velocity.... I will tell you exactly (or pretty darn close) what your drop table will look like out to 1000yds. I can and will also include a wind drift table using a 10MPH wind. The key to shooting 1000yds and beyond is to stay at or above "super sonic" or 1100fps at those distances. Most bullets will tend to de-stabilize at velocities slower that 1100fps. Not all, just most.
