ok. maybe i jumped on the wrong side. last year i traded my sav. m11 .223 for a sav. m16fss .22-250. in the 223 i was shooting 40gr. v max. we had some bad experiences on coyotes. lost several that ran off and were not found. they had nasty holes on the entrance side. so i said >:(enough of this. i went back to the 22-250. now i am shooting 55 gr. v maxs. i am not currently satisfied with the results. have had several yotes run over 100 yds. after being hit behind the shoulder. my son shoots 55vmax in his 223 with good results on coyotes. anybody got some good advice on a load for the 22-250. 20 years ago i used to load the hornady 50 sx and the sierra blitz down to 3300 fps in the 22-250. these slammed them ,like the rug was jerked from under them.. i have had good results with sierra 55 bthp. however they are quite as accurate. advice, anyone

Okcoyote,
You might try the Nosler 55 Balistic Tip. My 22-250's seem to prefer it over the vmax.

texasshooter, thanx for the info. will definitely give them a try. someone told me that hornady would custom load anything a guy wanted. does anyone know if this is the truth?

223, 22-250, 220 Swift, START RELOADING, and work up any load anywhere close to maximum, with a Speer 52 grain HP, the one with the BIG opening! This bullet is NOT the current, high tech, polymer tipped great thing. But this bullet works! Almost never even exits, stirrs innards up exceptionally, and lays coyotes DOWN!!! Bullets are fairly cheap, too! Mark

OKcoyote, the last rifle I used them in was a friend's 220 Swift - he thought the barrel was shot out. After a GOOD cleaning I ran some of the 52 gr Speer through it & got .315 groups @ 100yds. Someone who can shoot could probably do better. Basically, in my experience, if a rifle won't shoot these bullets, it won't shoot anything. I do have a 22-250 that won't shoot them, but it has a 1 in 8" twist -too fast for that bullet. This particular rifle seems to like 69gr Sierra HPBT Match bullets. I just built it and haven't got a coyote with it yet, but prairie dogs are darn near cut in half! I don't think it's going to be fur friendly, but that's OK - I don't save hides, just my baby calves. My Encore .223 and NEF love the heck out of the BlackHills reloads that are 53 gr Match Grade HP. I have been getting low pelt damage with good drop dead knock downs on both yotes and bobcats. The price is right too, about 13 bucks for the 50 count box.

okcoyote, my 22-250 weath, likes 50 gr ballistic tips, sounds like yours are maybe exploding on impact? maybe real close shots? they can do this, slow the 50 or 55 gr BT down and I'll bet you like the results!! MY load for long range yotes is 37.5 grs Varget, and 50 gr BT , also like the ballistic silvertips,(kinda-pricey) but the foul the barrel less and shoot fantastic!!let us know how you get along. the Fishman
