kellyg , I have tried calling with a bow. Called a couple of coyotes in real close too. I even managed to miss one at about ten feet. I never did collect a coyote with a bow, but I sure did have some exictement while trying.

I killed one with a crossbow last year.....I was deer hunting and this crazy coyote howled when I made a deer bleat call......he was close, so I made the call again and he howled again......I didn't expect him to come in, but I had nothing to lose, so I lip squeaked a few times and here he came........shot him at about 20 yards and he managed to run 50 or 60 before he died.......I was amazed at how close he came to avoiding the arrow!

I killed two coyotes with my compound and then got confident and went after them with the recurve and missed two.I only hunt deer with bow&arrow and when I get a little bored I break out the mini-blaster and see what I can call up.I have gotten the fever from these few calling attempts so here I am looking at these web sites picking up tips.

I guess I'll get a call for the stand since our lease is covered in coyotes. I had two go off at what I would say was between 50 and 100 yds from me this week. Man, I about jumped out of my skin!! They were downwind and I know I was smelly from all the work (sweating) I had been doing before getting in the blind to watch a feeder so I guess they should howl! ;D

Kelly,
If they are that close, I would try just lip squeaking them into the open........
Good Hunting,
Bob

Was bow hunting for deer a few years back. It was getting close to noon, and everything seemed to be bed down. We were on our 4-wheeleres (ATV's) so we didn't have much to do until it started cooling off. We decided to go call out the nice looking draw. There were 4 of us, one of which was Greg, who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with his bow. Anyhow, we all found a good place to sit, and I began to call. In only a few seconds, I saw a fox running strait for me. I was on my butt, and didn't have enough strength to get my bow back from the position that I was in, so I just kinda sit there stunned. By this time the fox was only about 20yrds from me, and was pretty much stopped. Well I heard the THUD, and seen the arrow sticking through the fox (We always carry an older arrow with a field point to shoot at rabbits while hunting). The fox turned and ran to the direction he came from, with the arrow still in him. We ran after him (he died about 40 yards away, perfect heart shot). When we got to the fox, we were all asking who shot it. Greg, proud as could be announced that he did, and we didn't believe him at first. That is the thing with bow hunting though, Your arrow is your proof unlike the bullet (unless your a ballistics expert). We couldn't deny, it was Greg's arrow. Ruined all his good luck on a poor little fox
