I used to shoot lots of jackrabbits. This was done at night from a pickup. One consideration was the blast needed to be kept low, whether it was you or your partner doing the shooting. If it was me doing the shooting,I wanted the recoil low for that much shooting. I used .22 centerfires with cast bullets. This was a 58 grain (RCBS mold)at 2000---2200 fps. Works great. I could drop them to about whatever range you could get a good spotlight on them. To me,jacketed bullets even in .22 cals were too blasty. Seeing as how I could get wheelweights free--it made for cheap shooting too. Using cast bullets, you can get suitable results in cals larger than .22. Even a 30-06 below 1800 fps produces little blast and recoil.

I usually just take my 10/22 and go after them with that. I also use my 22-250 quite a bit after predator calling..........
They are great practice for running shots.

We spotlight here also. I have a 360 rotating bench that mounts in the back of my truck and sets well above the cab. Add in some 10/22 and start the fun.

I wonder Bob, did you ever get the jackrabbit mount that you wanted?
