What is the heaviest artilary you guys use to shoot varmints? I have been fortunate to add several new rifles and calibers over the last four or five years and my current line up is as follows:
10/22T 22lr (grounds sqrls, rabbits close range pdogs)
Anschutz 1730 22 hornet (sqrls, rabbits, podgs close chucks) Primary use rabbits.
Savage 112BVSS 223 (ground sqrls, pdogs, chucks) Primary use pdogs.
Savage 112FV-S 220 Swift (mid range pdogs, chucks)
Ruger 243VT (long range pdogs, mid range chucks) primary use chucks.
700 BDL 257 Roberts AI (chucks, coyotes, deer, pigs) Primary use coyotes.
Colt Light Rifle 7MM rem mag (big game)
700 Sendero 7MM STW (long range chucks)
700 VS 308 (mid-long range chucks)
The 243 shooting 55 grain Ballistic tips and 87 grain Vmax is an awsome mid range chuck rifle. The 308 really has surprised me with its mid-long range potential with the Nightforce scope and loads with ballistic tips and match bullets. The 7MM STW is death to all long range chucks thinking they are safe. The 120 grain vmax or ballitic tip traveling 3650 fps sends them air borne or into pieces at very long ranges.
Latest addition the little hornet has surprised me in initial trips hunting with its effectivness at 200 yards on rabbits.
Mike.

I use a .243 and Hornady 75 or 65 grain bullets. There is not alway an exit wound but it does drop the wood chucks in there tracks. The v-max is great around livestock as it tends to dissenegrate rather than rechociet.

257 Roberts with 75 grain v-maxes for coyotes and prairie dogs. Won't pass up a coyote or occasional prairie dog when big game hunting with my 270 or 338 though.

480 Ruger, from a 9.5" Super Redhawk. Got two woodchucks over 70 yards. ;D
It's not the most efficent caliber to use, but it was great practice for deer season. I figured that if I could hit woodchucks over 50 yards I could take deer at close to 100. Has worked great so far.
