I have seen many pictures of several different kinds of rams that people hunt and was wondering if they were good eaten or not? The only thing I have heard about that was good to eat was an audad, but I wasn't fortunate enough to try any. Just curious.

Most folks make sausage from the meat. One of my hunting partners cuts out the tenderloin and backstrap and grills it. Like many things, it is an acquired taste.....I have not acquired it yet.....
If it is too strong for your taste, you can always donate the meat to a food bank or Hunters for the Hungry.

I have not tried audad--but if it is more gamey than the antlelope(pronghorn) I have tried,it's some gamey stuff. But antelope makes good jerky. I've recently learned you can make better jerky by grinding the meat vs slicing it. You use a jerky gun which is nothing more than a caulking gun with a plastic reservoir to put the meat in. You can buy them at various places--local Wal Mart here has them. Once the meat is ground(I use a hand grinder),I use a dry mix made by Nesco also sold at Wal Mart. I mix it per instructions and let set overnight and then using the jerky gun I can make one continuous spiral onto my dehydrator tray and then break to whatever length I want when done. I have found the spices and salts in the Nesco kit can be cut back some with better results. For six pounds of meat use the ingredients as if it were maybe 4 pounds. By grinding the meat,I can remove a lot of sinew as I grind and can remove more as I lay the strip with the gun. You want get it all,but more so than using sliced meat.

:)All I can say is... Bobcat is right .... Aoudad is an aquired taste like scotch.... but at least scotch will make you feel better! The Game Warden's annual cook out here in Waco is always a big success with all kinds of game. However, one of the "least eaten" animals was the aoudad; you could smell it before you ate it!

:)That's funny .... the last time I went by the Flying J... CoonDawg was screaming his famous call... HERE BILLY, BILLY, BILLY...
And the Sarge wuz trying to sneak a ride at the Harley shop next door! He had his leather jacket on backwards to keep warm; but, he fell off the bike and when CD cam running over and tried to turn his head around....
Then ... a whole crowd of people were standing around ... just pointing and laughing at them, when some joker came running up with a handful of snipes!
Oh well, that's life on THE IH-35 "NAFTA FREEWAY"! ;D
