:)Hey DoeNob.... how about a Gould's? Some parts of south Texas have them roaming around! Lot's of people forget about that turkey here in Texas, although they are mainly in Mexico!

Jdickey - I dont' think Gould's are game animals in TX. We only have a season on Rio Grandes and Easterns, there is no turkey tag for a Gould's turkey, and no season. I don't know if this means you can hunt them year round or can't hunt them at all, but its certainly not on the TPWD's radar.

Rio Grande turkeys must be tagged; however, the regulations do not specify other species...
Game Birds
All wild varieties of: Bobwhite quail Chachalaca Gambel's quail Lesser prairie chicken Migratory game birds (all species) Pheasants Scaled quail (blue) Turkey Species with no open season:
* Attwater's prairie chicken * Mearn's (Montezuma) quail * Partridge (includes chukar)

Well, if a Gould's is a turkey, and all turkeys are game birds, and we only have tags for Easterns & Rios, I'd assume that means its illegal to kill a Gould's in TX?

Never heard of any Gould's in Texas. There are very small numbers in Arizona and New Mexico. In the United States, Gould's turkeys are found in the Animas and San Luis mountains of New Mexico and in the Peloncillo Mountains of New Mexico and Arizona. If anyone has more info on the location of Gould's in Tx......there is alot of people that would sure like to hear about the location of them.

:)Just heard back from Steve DeMaso who is the Upland Game Bird Program Leader of the TPWD .... Merriam and Gould's turkey, both of which can be found in the Trans-Pecos area of Texas, are NOT a huntable game bird in Texas. The Hunting and Fishing Regulations pamphlet is not completely correct in listing "all wild varieties of: turkey". Only the Rio Grande and Eastern specie of turkey are huntable.

I consider myself a turkey hunting addict. They are in my mind all year long in some way. I look forward to being a member of this board.
I see some familiar names. Hello Shane, Jen, and LH.
