I have used a gobbler shaker in the past when I feel that a gobbler has kind of hung up, say more than a hundred yards out. Then I shut up to make the real thing think another gobbler has found the hen he was talking to. For me sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't (like anything else during the spring turkey season). Does anyone else use a gobbler shaker during the spring hunt? I have never seen anyone use them on TV, although those hunts seem to be kind of staged.....

:)Hey ICM... not used a shaker for gobblers (did for ducks). But one that has worked for me in the past was PRIMOS "tube call" gobbler. Had an ole tom going bonkers last spring! The down side is that it takes two hands to do the call effectively...

I used to use a shaker! I was forever bumping it in my pocket or sitting on it. After being left on the dash of the truck for extended periods of time the diaphram went bad. I now use my boxcall. It takes less effort to make as good if not better gobble with a box. Just hold the box in your left hand and grip the paddle between your index and social finger of you right. Shake the paddle back and forth across both sound boards just like you were shakeing the dew of your, well never mind what! This gets thier attention absolutely. Nothing makes for a better locator. Do a double gobble and you'll have ever Tom in hearing distance gobble almost in unison. Take your pick based on distance and terain .TT

I was forever bumping it in my pocket or sitting on it.TT T squared - thanks for the response. Mine has a cap on it to prevent it from sounding off. I use the Primos hand gobbler (can use it with one hand well, I think, JD.) and it seems to be a good tool (although not as good as the Lynch box) to bring them in sometimes. I do not call as much as seen on TV. That just doesn't work for me. I'll give a couple of hen calls, then shut up for several minutes, (and if I get a response, give another hen call, then the gobbler shaker, then SHUT UP for a while. Let the gobbler think he has some competition.

That's interesting. I have tried doing the same thing at home and it sounded pretty good - at least it did to me - but I just haven't had the courage to try it out in the field. The thought of screwing up and losing a gobbler would kind of ruin my day, if not season........ Maybe I'll give it a try this year.

>:(Hey ICM... ya know it's gonna be cold, because the Ole Farmers always said "if ya have thunder in February, yer gonna have a freeze in April!" I had pretty good success with that Primos Shock Tube this past year. Had three toms just madder than all get out, and they just couldn't believe somebody was steppin in on their women! I mixed the Moss Doubletone hen call with that Primos and had an interesting show for a while! Got them within 20 yards and introduced them to Mr. Browning!

For safetys sake I don't use a gobble call in the field unless I am absolutely positive there are no other hunters in the area. I would certainly not use one on public ground.
Never used a shaker type call, but I have a tube call that I can put out some decent gobbles on. Because of the safety issue I very seldom use it, but I always carry it just in case.
