I am looking for a good quail hunt - preferably wild quail for this season - preferably the later the better, but if the price is right, I can probably adjust my calender.
Not looking for four star accomodations or fancy meals - just a good hunt for me and the dog..
Does anybody know of a good day lease that won't bust me? Or of public lands that are worth the drive for bird hunting?
Would also be willing to trade a good Rio Grande spring turkey hunt at my lease near Cuero in trade for a good quail hunt....
thanks,
Jim

I'm going to try and get out this afternoon on some public land quail hunting. I am going south of Harlingen by Rangerville. Need to get my Brittany puppy out running around. Too much energy in the house. Sometimes I think she needs to live on a farm or something. lol I must say something good about her; though she's 5 months old and she's not at all gun shy.

There is tons of great public land hunting for quail in Arizona. I was located in Tempe for work last winter, and it was a horrible season, but I still got out and chased em. What's so great about that place, is you can get out with the dogs or just drive around till you see a covey on the side of the road, pull over and commence to chasin em! Unlike TX, most of the land there is public, so just be licensed correctly and get out and hunt it. I would consider a trip out there with some guys, a SW flight for $100 and a couple days hotel and a car rental wouldn't be bad at all if we split it up. And I could get some guidance from some locals I befreinded while there. Anyhow, if anyone is interested in this, let me know and I can try and work something for next year.

I have been looking into a trip out to Az. for quail but from what I have heard the quail crop is down again this year.. Have your heard any reports. I am going to drive out when I go so I can take my dogs. (Its just not worth going without my dogs)
How far is Tempe from the border.
