Dave, Gimme yer mailing address!
GonHuntin', You too, pal!
Dave
PS - I want you guys to make noise about this cartridge now! The rifle I have that's chambered for it set me back over $8,000! And the components are still extremely expensive! But if more people start wantin' these monster guns, then all that will change!

BTW, the 950 JDJ was developed by SSK industries and launches a 3,600 Grain projectile at 2,200 fps! McMillan made single shot rifles for it using Krieger barrels. The rifles weighed in at 100 - 110 lbs and the muzzle break alone weighed in at 18 lbs. I won't tell ya what I paid for the one cartridge.
The 700 N.E. was develeped in 1988 by Jim Bell of Bell Basic Brass. It was chambered in a limited number of double-barrel rifles made by Holland & Holland. 70 cal bullet weighing in at 1,000 grains with a muzzle velocity of 2,000 fps and muzzle energy of 8,900 ft lbs. wow
I can't find any info about the 17 FAE, if anyone does let me know.
I got most of this info out of Cartridges of the World. Great book, I highly recommend it for any collectors.
Anyone ever find any Sharps cartridges or anything bigger than a 45-70 (ie 45-125)? I'd be happy to purchase any that you find.

Dave, Wow! Very interesting stuff! I suppose the .700 NE remains within the range of what is reasonable when we consider that there are hunters in the world who fancy collecting the heads of dangerous animals, but wanna actually try to 'pet' such animals just before they dispatch them. Such hunters NEED rifles of this capacity! But the .950 JDJ is just way 'over the top'! In fact, it's just downright absurd!!! Men make tools and/or machines like that, however, not because it's practical or reasonable, but simply because they can!
This .408 Cheyenne Tactical shell (an example of which I'm sending you later today) is pretty remarkable, too. It was designed from the standpoint of a very specific agenda: a cartridge that would provide sub-0.5 MOA accuracy out to a distance of not less than 2,000 meters, but be compatible with single-man portable systems. Unfortunately, it has yet to measure up in terms of accuracy! It does, nonetheless, remain supersonic past 2,000 meters, and generates significantly less recoil than a .50 BMG cartridge in rifle designs of comparable mass. The thing is, the accuracy problem may very well be a function of poor brass and the wrong projectile designs. People are working on these things, however. So let's keep our fingers crossed and pray this thing doesn't go the way of the .950 JDJ or .17 FAE!
By the way, Mark, I'm mailing one of these out for you, too!
Regards, Dave

Allen, That projectile is a 422-grain copper/nickel alloy solid and has a B.C. of 0.949. It's manufactured by a firm called Lost River Ballistic Technologies which is located in Arco, Idaho. Interestingly enough, their extensive load experimentation has yet to find a propellant that allows realization of the mathematical projections made for the cartridge by its designer (a cancer researcher, of all things). He generated data that gave every indication that this projectile could be safely pushed to a mean MV exceeding 3000 fps given the capacity of the case. Nonetheless, even the most suitable propellants will not generate mean MVs of > 2900 fps under standard atmospheric conditions. Still, even at this speed, that projectile remains supersonic out past 2000 meters (2200 yards). The thing is, that 100 fps translates to 10 MOA elevation at 1000 yards. Imagine the difference it would mean 2000 yards out!!!

BW, I think that is awesome that you are starting up a collection. I may can add to it some more.
I still haven't sent the Mach IV so if you want I can add a 45-70 Gov't, 222 Rem, 7x57mm with a 1947 headstamp, a few more you don't have listed. Give me a couple days and I'll dig around my stuff and see what I can come up with.
Cartridges of the World by Frank Barnes is an amazing book! The 10th ed is out for 20-25 bucks. Plus I can get you in touch with some other fella's that I deal with.
I actually need a 45-50, but I try to stick to loaded, or at least a bullet and a primer......yeah, I know....I'm picky.
I've just added a few more cartridges to my collection so I need to update my list on MS Word. Putting it on a site would be the thing to do. If your interested in seeing what I have let me know and I'll email the file.
Dave, truley awesome cartridge. You ought to be getting the ones I mailed anyday now.
