....this from the Associated Press:
POSTED: 12:32 p.m. EDT September 30, 2003
BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Police say a man was bitten by a rattlesnake while shopping for shoes in a Wal-Mart store in Texas.
Douglas Hatchett of Brownwood was examining shoes on a rack when a rattlesnake concealed behind a shoebox bit him Monday. The snake fell to the floor, where Hatchett stomped it to death.
Police, fire and emergency medical crews were called to the scene.
The 31-year-old shopper and the dead snake were hustled to Brownwood Regional Medical Center. There, the snake was confirmed as a rattler, and Hatchett was treated and released.
Wal-Mart officials say the matter's being investigated and they have no comment.
Brownwood is about 120 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

....and now for the rest of the story. This is not the first time a WalMart shopper has been bitten by a rattlesnake! My advice......shop packin'! "Mr. Charles Blount of Tallahassee was bitten by a pigmy rattlesnake in March of 1995 as he went to grab a potted plant at the local Walmart. Mr. Blount stomped on the snake and then another shopper went after it with a shovel. Pigmy rattlesnakes have bitten four shoppers in stores since 1987. Three of these bites occurred in Walmarts while one shopper was bit in a Kmart (all of the above information is from the Orlando Sentinel; March 22, 1995; Associated Press). "

Getting bitten by a snake in Walmart -
how do you spell "Lawsuit"? ;D I am not a litigious person, but I think I'd make an exception here.....
Would be like hitting the lottery.

There is some speculation that this guy planted the snake in the store and made the story up. Right now Walmart is going over their security cameras to see if they will show anything different. Right now from what the local news is saying its hard to know what to believe. At first he said that all he wanted from Walmart was for them to cover his medical expenses on the snake bite. According to the news he alreadys owes the hospital something like $15,000 from previous happenings. They never did say what kind of happenings. Who knows what really happened. If he was bit while shopping in Walmart, then they should pay for his medical expenses related to this incident. If not he should be placed in a pit with 500 rattlesnakes and forced to stay there for a day.

:PThe Key Feed dealership in Robert Lee has pictures of two rattle bugs that are just flat out scarey! Both snakes are over 6ft. in length, one is 16" in circumference, the other is 14". It would be great if that guy trying to stiff WalMart had to be in the same room with those two snakes for about 5 minutes, then maybe he would suddenly get salvation!

Am I the only one that feels sorry for the snakes?
Stomping on them just ruins the skins and makes the meat gushy. How am I suppose to eat that after it has become roadkill ;-)

Hey, JD how about doing that with a Horney Toad? I still remember chasing those things down when I was a kid. They might be a better seller than the lizard. They are still cool.

Speaking of horny toads, we have seen a bunch this yr on our hog lease. I caught one the other day and brought it home to show my son. He thought they were pretty cool looking. I can remember as a kid we would catch hundreds of them each summer. Back in the good ol days!!!!
