Watched parts of "Chasing the Dream" this morning while doing 2 miles on the treadmill.......what a bunch of BS!!! The moron host was "hunting" elk with a bow.......they magically follow these bulls around all day......and the guide seems to know exactly where they will go next Well, they finally get into position to take the shot and moron host ranges the bull......55 yards.... 99.9% of bowhunters should never try a shot that far.... moron host is definitely one of those 99.9%!!! They show the arrow strike in slow motion......it hits the bull about 8"-10" below the top of the back.....bull runs off and the moron host says YES! Good shot! What an idiot! He then tells the camera we are going to wait just a few minutes and then get right on the bull....... of course, they find the bull right away (yeah, right) and celebrate how big he is and what a great hunt it was........there is NO WAY that shot would kill an elk.....it was clearly ABOVE the spine!!! What a load of bovine excretement! Please don't whizz down my back and tell me it's raining!!! I am so sick of these "experts" killing monsters on game farms and representing the kill as some big accomplishment! How many of us would have a problem killing a monster bull or buck in a place like the Sanctuary, Samson's Ridge or one of the other high dollar game ranches?? When they have that many big bucks per acre, it is only a matter of time before even the biggest stumblebum connects with one! Let's see some real, filmed as it happened, hunting on "normal" property! "The Truth About Hunting" and maybe the Wild Outdoors are about as close as I have found to real hunting. Texas Trophy Hunters was a good show until they started filming so many "hunts" at Samson's Ridge......what's up with that? Samson's Ridge is in Illinois.....last time I checked.....that wasn't part of Texas! Maybe I'm just missing the good shows.....so tell me your favorites........

Gon,I stopped watching the hunting shows a I found them to be so full of BS. I have been a part of a Show once adn never gain will I take part ina show that tells you that it was a 2 day hunt that was really a 10 day hunt. TTHA is a good show but they are running out of places to hunt and get good video for the show. I know Jerry Johnson and he is a great man and he is trying to get the best at a good price.
The best show that I have found so far is Spirt of the Wild. he is really working on gettingthe hunt with a lesson to.
I would like to see a hunting show with real hunters doing a real hunt.I am thinking of Taping my hunts and putting them on TV as a Real hunter and not a staged hunt.

I agree with you guys 100%!!! My wife and I both watch on the weekends and laugh at the same time. It's unbelieveable some of the things these guys do.
Texasdoc, I'm with ya man!!! I have always thought a real time video of a real hunter who has to scratch to make a living and find a place to hunt would be awesome to watch. Even the mishaps and bungles!! LOL
Let me know when we wanna start filmin!!! I'll join in!!! ;D

I am think Posse hunt would be a good start,What do you think??? I Have a Pro style Sony Camera and lots of Tape for it. show how real hunters do it and not the TV types that just show up and just hunt for a few hours and kill the next world record what ever. I would liketo show the hunt as it really happens, like the hunter falling asleep or eatting a the Buck or hog comes in and trying to get to his gun or bow and still keep th food in his mouth.
this are just some Ideas i have had.

Spirit of the Wild??? Maybe if you watch it on mute or duct tape Ted's mouth shut!!! I could go the rest of my life without hearing "The beast is dead, long live the beast" or "We are celebrating the Spirit of the Wild"!!! I know Ted does lots of good for the cause......but he really turns a lot of people off with his incessant babbling and his ego! I don't watch hunting shows for a "lesson", I watch them for entertainment......... There was a show on last season called the do it yourself hunter.....these guys hunted public land and did it the hard way......they hunted out of tents and worked for what they got......I even saw an episode when they had other public land hunters accidentally blow their set-up and they pointed out that the other guys had just as much right to be there as they did! That is what I want to see.....real guys on real hunts!

LOL @ GH!!! Good point on Ted's babbling, just glad he does some positive things for the outdoor sports.
Texasdoc, you hit the nail on the head imho. I cant see why a show like that wouldn't be a hit. I cant make the hog hunt due to some work issues but I bet you're gonna get some good footage!! LMAO!!!

The first time I took my wife out to the stand with me, I shot a nice 8 pt. Neck shot and he was dead in his tracks. My wife asked "why he didn't run off like they do on the hunting shows?" LOL My reply was "well Sweetie I am not much on seeing my deer run after I shoot them." She has also noticed that there has been times on the "hunting shows" that they shoot a deer and act like its the same day when they recover it but they didn't realize everyone was wearing different clothing and it was obvious it was the next day or so. Thats the thing I like about most of the predator hunting videos I have watched - you see misses along with the kills. Not too mention they don't act like they go out and film 15 kills in one day of hunting. We are in the process of booking a hog hunt for next spring and the guys are mainly coming out to film their hunt and put it with other hunts they have done and sell the video. I haven't seen any of their work yet but I am interested in how real they keep it.

;)I'd have to say that I've watch two shows that are favorites... Keith Warren and Will Primos. In my opinion they "tell it like it is". Of course they all get to hunt the prime spots, but at least they let you see a miss or two! I know some of the production staff for Keith Warren and they have always said that he does work hard for most of his shows. They do edit, but mostly because they have time constraints.

GH this is a very good post! So how many of you have seen a real (funny type) life hunting situtation? Such as the one my buddy had last year. I had to work late and he didn't so he took his son with him. His son is 6 yrs old, well after working a very long day. He got real comfortable in his blind with his son and you know what happens. He fell asleep, just as he was in a deep sleep. His son tried to wake him to let him know that a big buck had come to the feeder , weel he didn't believe him and tried to get back to sleep . It was only after his son told him he was going to kill his first deer that he realize what he was saying ;D. All this time the buck is still feeding. He puts his glasses on only to see a real nice 10 point buck starting to walk away . Of course he forgot to take the safety off , bout that time the feeder goes off and the deer being a little startled trots off to the fence line. Then for some reason decides to go back to feeding. Giving my buddy a second chance, this time the safety was off and he made the shot from 75 yards The moral of this story is make sure when you get into the blind you are well rested.

;DSeveral years ago, my son went with me on one of his first deer hunts. He was 8 years old (he's 27 now), and we were going to hunt his grand dad's (my dad) deer stand. It was in the afternoon. We were hunting an oak thicket in Gillespie County and were quietly approaching the deer stand. Son was doing real good staying up and being reeeeal quiet! I spotted an 8 point in the trees and thought I had motioned to my son to be reeeeally, reeeally quiet... when suddenly, the quiet of the afternoon was broken with a very sharp cry of .... THERE'S ONE DAD... haven't seen that deer since, but still get a great laugh telling tha story! ;D ;D

Its OK to be instructive, but that philosophical crap is just a bit much. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Since I am primarily a wing shooter, I enjoy Shotgun Journal - a couple of guys that go all over the world shooting different stuff.

I watched an NRA video the other day that had Jim Shocky in it. He was hunting for Caribou. There were thousands of Caribou around and he shoots one that has one side of his antlers broken off. He or the two guys with him never noticed it. Jim said when it's time to shoot, I'm not looking at the antlers. He was pretty disappointed with his one antlered Caribou. I thought, now that's more like it, instead of always getting the biggest, bestest, mostest, greatest animal out there. And even at that you know there was a lot of filming to get just those few minutes of the hunt that made it to the video.
