I shot a doe with my crossbow about 15 minutes before dark this evening.....couldn't find my arrow or any blood with the light I had and didn't want to push it, so I left for the night.......it is 57 degrees right now with a low expected in the mid to low 30s.......I have never had to leave one overnight.....what are the chances that the deer will still be edible if I recover her in the morning (providing the coyotes don't get her first!)

GH,I have left them over night before and it was in the low 50's and was 37 in the morning. I did take it to the house and bucthered it and I am still here. I think you will be ok if you get out early and found it.
I hate to hear that you can't find her tonight, but you will be ok.

;)Hey GH... it should be O.K. Flies don't usually get out and mess with anything when it's below 50 degrees anyway.

The good news is that I found the deer.....the bad news is that she was spoiled.......instead of the mid 30s, overnight temps only got down to the mid 40s.......she was bloated and stinking when I found her.......I opened her up and that was as far as I went . She was only 75 yards from where I shot her, but she was in the opposite direction of the way she ran after the shot.....she had circled back and that's why I didn't find her last night......she was hit through both lungs.....the shot was just a little high.....I remember seeing her drop at the shot and I guess that's why the hit was high.....I guess coyotes got to eat too...........

GH,I am sorry to hear that,I was hoping it would of been good still. Well we all learned something here,if its not below 40*it won't be a good find.
Again I am sorry to hear you lost a great doe.

Hey GH,
I am sorry you lost the doe to the elements. I know how much it tears you up.
Good Hunting,

I have passed up 3 other easy shots at deer this archery season (1 buck & 2 does) because they were too small......when I finally get a shot at the right deer.....this happens.....she was a really nice doe..... probably 95+ pounds.........
Hopefully I'll get another opportunity!
