Well Y’all, (Am I talking Texan now?)
I learned a long time ago that the best way to tell a hunting story is to tell it like it really was, so all you Posse Members get (git) ready for the FACTS on this hunt.
First of all I got to tell y’all that that Bobcat is one good guy, he put up with me from the time I landed in San Antonio to the moment he dropped me off at the airport for my return trip. What a GUY!!
First thing we did was to head out Thursday night to meet up with my hunting partner Ed, aka-“Sarge”, at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. I was a little disappointed, at first, as I had promised Bob a “good” dinner for putting me up at his place, well by-golly we had that good dinner right there. I have never seen a bigger Chicken Fried Steak as the ones Sarge and Bobcat ate that night. I had a wonderful Liver and Onions, some coffee and lots of good chitchat, by the time we left; I was ready to hunt for sure.
The next morning Bob took me over to his favorite breakfast spot where he ate another enormous meal, I swear he either doesn’t eat most days or works out cause anyone eating like that would be, or should be, twice as tall and four times fatter. Sarge came over to pick up some food that he had stored at Bob’s place and we left for Pleasanton where we were to meet up with everyone else and… guess what? EAT again.
Ed arrived at just about the same time we did and went in to find and meet GMB and RLW from Tatum, NM and got right to the good chitchat while the others straggled in. CoonDawg was the last to show, he would have been on time but forgot his rifle??? He had to go back home to get it and I imagine explain to his wife how (or what) he was going to hunt without a gun. We all formed a caravan and followed David, the rancher, out to the place, took a tour and got set to go hunting!!!
Ed and I took off to the North where there were some promising stands, put out some corn and settled in to wait for the Hogs. Well, I saw everything but hogs; blue, brown, red and black birds, deer up the gazoo, many rabbits and cows eating the corn but no hogs. We went in about 7:30 or so to, you guessed it EAT. When we got in Bozo Wise was just starting to skin his hog, the first of the hunt, it was a good looking black and white sow that went about 75-80 pounds.
Let me tell you about the food first; Ed brought some goood beans I mean they stuck to your ribs and competed with Sun Oil in it’s gas production, did I tell you they were good? GMB, a man after mi own heart, brought some excellent Jalapeño peppers that went real well with them beans. THEN CoonDawg came in and brought out the BBQ, a great Brisket that I won’t soon forget with several sauces making a world-class meal. I gained EIGHT pounds last weekend! Enough about the FOOD!!
After the Moon came up, Ed and I went back to the stand that I had been on and waited for the hogs, It wasn’t long before Ed had his opportunity; Ed has pretty much told the story up above the only additional comment I might make is that the PIG STUNK, just can't say that enough.
PART TWO LATER….
