Hey guys , I am thinking about buying one of those battery operated decoys and was wondering if any of you have tried them and which one you liked the best . ;D

Hey mountainman,
In the past I have used a decoy heart, and put it in a coon skin cap and let it flop around. It works pretty good. The decoy heart is just a plastic ball with a weight on the inside of it. When you turn it on the weight spins around inside and gives it motion. I've got another thing I'm trying this year that so far has worked great. Its called a hot-wing s quiver magnet. It's kinda the same deal as the decoy heart, but it sits flat, and has wings. What I did last weekend was took the wings and stuck them up inside feather flex rabbit. It had some real good action to it. I got some good video of two bobcats and two coyotes that were lured to it.
There are lots of other decoys out there but those are the ones I've tried. Hope this helps.
I love decoys because I think they add a extra bit of realism to your set-up. Plus it puts their attention on the decoy instead of you. That being said I only use them about 50% of the time.

MM,
I have used two of the motorized decoys. To me, they are too much trouble to mess with. I took a rabbit pelt with the head and ears on it and glued it to a half-gallon plastic milk jug. It works great and is very light to carry. You can place it next to your speaker when using an electronic caller and weight it down with a rock......no shortage of those here. Like Byron, I probably use it about half of the time.

I'm gonna try and post some pictures of a coyote and a bobcat I shot last weekend. I hope this works. in it to give it motion. That looks like a Rigor Rabbit but its not. It's just a Feather Flex Rabbit stuck on top of a Hot Wing's motor magnet to give it some motion. You could put just about any kind of a stuffed animal on top. It just helps sometimes if they have something to focus on, especially if there is not much ground cover. Good Huntin Byron

Hey Mountainman,
We use decoys about 40% of the time. Rigor Rabbit, but his original motor wasn't very good so I put a quiver magnet motor in him. A fawn decoy by Feather Flex. I put a quiver magnet in it also for movement. Also have a decoy that consists of some feathers on a spring hooked to a motor on a stick. Can't remember the name of that one, but it works good, maybe the best. Easy to carry and set up.
They add work to a set up, but I've found they also cause responses from extra wary predators.

Slammy,
I think the other decoy your talking about is the Enticer. I've never used one, but i've heard good things about them.

Byron,
You are correct sir. The Enticer. Hopefully the MFG'r will never see my post. I did say it's a good one.
P.S. Anyone want to see these decoys in action? Order "Coming To The Call". Excellent video.

Here is the link to the "Enticer" decoy. I had the privilege of being one of the field testers for this in the development stages. It does work....... I just got to the point of not wanting to carry that much stuff...... www.tail-wagger.com/predator.htmBob

Funny Decoy Story.
We set up beside a real remote pond on our place. It had produced well in the past. I set my speaker and rabbit w/quiver magnet motor near the edge of the pond. My wife and I spread out in front of cedar bushes that lined the pond. I was sixty yards from the decoy. She was forty yards beyond me. The decoy was to my left on the same side of the pond.
After about 8 minutes I hear a lone coyote let out a long deep mournful howl probably 50 yds. behind Patsy. This, in my experience, is not a good sign. I kept calling anyway and stayed vigilant. After 50 minutes by the watch and no further action I started getting restless. I started trying different sounds. Different rabbit, bird, and some kind of African animal that I don't ever want to meet. It wasn't dark yet, so I figured what the heck. I put on a sound of a rabbit with a very angry bobcat sound mixed in with it. I played it loud and obnoxious. The bobcat sound was making the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I knew nothing would come to this racket.
Just then out of the corner of my left eye...movement! Something was running fast toward the decoy. My gun is coming up, whatever it is grabbed my decoy! My gun is shouldered...boom! The decoy is still flailing in the air as the noise from the .308 echos away. We both stood and started laughing. We couldn't beleive that something had responded to that awful noise. We walked over and there laid a big boss dog. Probably the one that warned off earlier. I guess the bobcat noise triggered a territorial response and he thought he'd steal the rabbit from that ole cat. We were impressed by his size so I drove the truck back down to the pond and weighed him. To date he's the biggest 'yote we've killed. 47.8 lbs. This is the one I should have gotten mounted.

Here he is. The decoy actually landed about ten feet away. I laid it back near him for the picture. Notice the shot through his head? It was a miracle that I hit him, he was running so fast. The best s*#* shot I've ever made. The blood stains and teeth marks are still on the side of ole Rigor Rabbit.
