Anybody use bait for coyotes and foxes, not really to hunt over but just to keep them traveling through your area? im from Ontario Canada and its really flat around here and not a lot of cover at all , i think coyotes do alot of traveling for food so i heard that bait piles can keep them coming back to the same area. What do you think?

Coyotes and fox are very territorial. They are either in an area or they are not. Their terrtitories size vary in different regions due to population density and the food supply. I don't think you really need to bait them in any way to keep them in an area. The young of the year are pushed out eventually to establish their own territories. If coyotes are in an area you can usually find sign such as tracks and scat pretty easily. You can kill off up to 75% of the coyotes in an area each year without decreasing the overall population.
Good Hunting,

I have tried a few things on coyotes and bobcats. I've used animal lures and baits like the trappers use and it seems to work. Example, during the day I put out a nasty smelling coyote past in several areas. I came back that night and there were animals around almost all the places I put the stuff. Another example was when my old hunting partner and I hunted down in Mexico. We'd use something he sent away for, it was so bad smelling we had to cover our nose and use a long stick to put it in a sock. We hung the sock off the back of the truck and the coyotes would come in on the run down wind, sometimes before we ever started our stand. Remember, these are just a bunch of old stories from an old man, you don't have to believe them, but I would if I was you. ;D Good Hunting
