coyotl, not to many people call intentionally for cougars (Mt lions) where I'm from lol. I know of a couple guys that do, the best I know of would be Steve Graig from Arizona. I have called in a few lions but believe me I was not trying to. :-/If you want a rush, call in a lion or a bear at night. Good luck to you coyotl.

Ed, sorry to jump in here while you're trying to get info on cougar calling, but in your experience have you noticed any partical call being used more so to call them in.

Coondawg. One of the things I'm researching is the best calls for cougars. Injured rabbit works, usually by hunter trying to call coyotes, etc. Deer fawn works. Turkey callers have accidentally called the big cats. I hear there's a tape of a female cougar in heat, but haven't located it yet. Coyotl

Hey Ed,
You may know this already, but Johhny Stewart has a sound described as mountain lion. I think it's a female in heat. Burnham Bros. also markets one as mountain lion vocalizations, supposedly in heat. I've used both, but not had any responses(that I know of!!!). They sound pretty severe so I'd think that a lion is the only thing that would respond. Everything else in the woods gets real quiet when you play those sounds.

Havent been on here in a while. Too busy calling lions for clients, plus other critters.
Ed, you can reach me at azpredatorhunts@hotmail.com and we can talk about all the different sounds I use and why. It will have to be sometime this week as this is the only week I have open for the next 3 months.
I target lions. they are actually pretty easy to call, in the right areas and with the right sounds, and the right techniques. They are not a coyote, a bobcat, or a fox, and this is where most would-be lion callers fail, as they try to use their coyote calling knowledge on a lion, and it just doesnt work on a consistant basis. The last four years I have called 19,25,17,17 lions for clients, and have started this season so far with 3 called. Should be an excellent year here again. Here in Az., we just have too many lions. This also makes it much easier to call them. Got to go now, so drop me a line and we will talk. Steve

Hey Steve, It is sure good to see you back here. I had told Ed earlier to contact you.......after all, who better than the "Lion King". I hope your season contiues on the same way it started. Please drop in and keep us posted. Your "cliff hanger" drive to your "prime" calling area took at least 5 years off of my life........and I grew up in the Rockies and am used to mountain roads! Good Hunting, Bob
