What is a Lynx Cat? Is it a Lynx or a Bobcat? I have had people tell me it's a mix between both, do they exsist? In my opinion They don't exsist, never have and never will. What do you think?

;)Hey Onecoyote... It is my understanding that there are 4 species of Lynx. The bobcat is the Lynx Rufus, found in the lower 48 states; the Lynx Canadensis is a larger specie found in northern Canada and Alaska and is protected. The Spanish Lynx is virtually extinct, and the Eurasian found in eastern Europe and western asia.
Each of these are much larger than most domestic cats, although there have been stories of cross breeding.
Hope that helps. I'm sure Bobcat will add some more! ;D

The only Lynx Cat I know about is the one where they cross bobcats with domestic cats...... I have never heard of Lynx breeding with bobcats, although I don't know why they couldn't in an area where their habitats overlap...... I reeeeeeeally want to take a lynx someday!! Danny, Have you ever called and taken one?? Bob

A lynx cat is a name furbuyers give to a high altitude bobcat. I caught a couple in Colorado. Same bobcat just different elevation.

Bobcat, can't say I ever seen or took a bobcat that looked like that one. Randy, I believe you are right. I heard the name lynx cat started at the fur market by trappers some years back, I think it just sounded better then plane old bobcat, sorry Bobcat lol .

jdickey sorry but the Lynx in Alaska is not protected. As soon as I can I will post a picture of one taken in one of my sets this past winter. They are at the moment the 3rd highest paying fur to the trappers, following only behind the Wolf and the Wolverine.

:oHey A.I.A... great looking cat ya got there! That should make a nice pelt. Sorry for the misinfo about the Lynx in Alaska, but they show that the Lynx (Canada) is on the CITES list, but low risk - appendix 2. So naturally figured that they had some regulation for it?!

Bobcat, nope I never got a lynx, never hunted in a place that I could take one. Like you, maybe someday. AlleninAlaska, I want one of them. Nice looking lynx, how much did it weigh?

onecoyote it probably weighed 35-40 pounds. Taste yummy also, well at least the hindquarters did. Just make a big pot roast with it. The other white meat.
