Well my buddy TR(songdog) and I went and walked 10miles today looking for the sneeky coyote. What a beautiful day. Sun shining ice on the ground and 25mph winds(yuck). We made 8 stands before the magic happened.
TR was off to my right blowing I think tweety. I was watching the ridge when I see a sorry looking coyote coming along really slow. The wind was blowing at an angle and he was heading right toward my scent. I tried lip squeeking so TR could get the shot on video but he was blowing tweety and couldnt hear me over the blowing wind. I lined up my shot with the #4buck at about 50 to 60yds looked over my shoulder to see if TR was watching and got ready. The coyote kept trying to get down wind and I was hopeing he would come closer but sure enough he caught my wind and turned tail and tried to bolt. Boom and its azz over tea kettle. He looked like he was going to be down for the count with many of the pellets hitting him. TR continued to call and we waited to see if we could get more to come in. I kept looking over at where the coyote was down and up he pops and starts hoping away. I hollared at TR to blast he so we didnt have to chase him and he hits him about 100yds out and rolls him again. We think hes anchored for sure this time so TR again calls waiting for somthing to come. Well nothing does come in so we do the handshake and go to look at my coyote when up he pops with more determination really moving. TR drops down and anchors another shot into his chest cavity and down he goes. Well we walk up and he does one more desperation flop and he expires. As we get closer we see that his front right paw has been shot off and healed up but that explained his slow moving. Here's the photo
Two more stands and nothing.
Next stand we are calling TR again on my right and a huge yucka(SP) between us. I was beginning to think nothing was going to come in when I hear a whistle and lean foward to see a coyote running dang near fullbore towards TR. I hear and shot and the next words are quick hes behind us. I swing around and TR rolls the coyote and it gets to its feet and starts running again I let out a couple blast and so does TR but the critter keeps on running. We gave chase but never found and blood so after about 30min we abandoned the search.
On the way out a coyote breaks up a draw and TR tried a hurried shot at about 250yds and the bullet blew up the dirt inches above the coyote back and hes out of site.
Long day not great conditions but a great time. The coyote I shot we partially skinned and he was prime as can be just to bad we couldn't salvage anything off him since TR blew him up! LOL
Sorry so long tomorrow WYO my gf and I are going to try and get my gf her first dog. Will let you know.
