The landowner that lets me bowhunt asked if I would take him and his uncle calling today and, of course, I said yes.....
The weather sucked, 10-20 mph winds and higher temps.....I didn't expect to call anything. Made two sets and didn't see a hair.......set-up the third time in a grown up highline right of way and called in a pair......I had set the uncle up to be the shooter and, of course, he couldn't see the coyotes.....they were 200+ across a big draw in the thick stuff and even I had trouble staying on them......they were not coming any closer so I decided to try a shot.......the coyote was sitting down and looking our direction.....all I could see was head and chest.....when the trigger broke......my target disappeared.....the second dog hit the road into even thicker stuff.....I figured I must have dumped the first one, I waded through waist high sumac, scrub oaks and grass to try to find it so the uncle wouldn't think I was seeing things......no such luck.......either I walked by the carcass in the brush and didn't see it.......or the coyote made the thick stuff before he died or I hit a limb (very possible) or I just flat missed???
That's the way it goes sometimes......at least we got to hunt and the landowner appreciated me taking the time to take them calling.......
