just wanted to see what some opinions are about calling coyotes in the rain , such as a light sprinkle, very black clouds , just minutes or hours after a rain and before.is it a waist of time ? i new to the calling seen.

Hey coyotehowl,
Sometimes before a front comes in, when the barometric pressure is falling before the rain and wind starts can be good. Almost always the morning after a front pushes through gets good results. An early afternoon rain that clears out a couple of hours before dark usually makes for a good late afternoon hunt.
When fronts are actually pushing through I've never had good luck. Predators(like most animals) can't hear as well in heavy winds so they stay holed up. They take cover during rain most of the time for the same reasons we do. Prey animals are very seldom out and moving during rain storms or bad condtions. Light rain is a possibility, if the barometric pressure is on the rise.
Just my experiences, maybe some others have other pointers.

thanks for the input, although we can not hunt at night with a spot light here in california, all the calling is done sun up to sun down. unless you get a depridation, which is difficult at times. i did call saturday with a slight sprinkle with very very light winds, thought i might bring something in, it rain saturday evening , and clear as a bell on sunday, called in 2 coyotes, around 11:00 .

Hey coyotehowl, I'm in Southeast Texas very close to the Gulf. Hear it's not a question of when does it rain, but when does it stop raining, and my opinion is if they holed up when it rains then they would starve to death. I have had sucess with bobcats and coyote in light to medium rain. I killed my first bobcat one morning when it had been raining all night and rained all that day. I shot my first deer in the rain and it had been raining for several days. I'm sure it is different in other places though. Several times I have been tempted to stay at home in a light rain but actualy had a good day hunting. A friend of mine told me that he used to deer hunt around here in the rain becacause the deer couldn't hear or see very well in the rain and it was easier to sneek up on them. If this is true, maybe coyotes know this also.
