Just curious, anyone call up a Mtn Lion before?
I worked on a ranch in west Tx right in the middle of prime cat country as "predator control" and did tons of calling. Called up lots of coyotes and foxs but never a cat. I've heard it takes them longer to come in.
A few years ago a couple of our deer hunters were blowing a grunt just off the crest of a ridge and one just happened to look behind him and a cat was mid-stide towards them about 20 yards or so, luckily he made a good shot and got him. Who knows what woulda happened if he never turned around. When I called alone my head was always on a swivel.

USMC-Mustang, Here is a quote from Steve Craig from another thread. He calls lions for a living: I have called two lions, one in Arizona hunting with Steve, and one in SW Oklahoma.....one of the states you can't shoot them in. We were using a fawn distress tape. To call lions you need to make your stands one hour. Steve also uses a fawn decoy near the speaker. As with most predator calling, you first need to make sure you have a lion in the area. Look for tracks, a "scratch", or a fresh kill. It is very important to develop the ability to stay still.....don't move....when you do, do so very slowly. Steve also uses a combination of lion vocalizations when he is calling....he is very good at it and really knows his prey. Most callers just go with a distess sound.........fawn distress probably gets used the most for lions. Good Hunting, Bob ps-If you look at the bottom of the page on each forum, you will see that there are several pages of threads on different topics. We tend to only look at the first page.

hey Mustang, when I was working for ADC,I had called in a few more like 3 big kittys. I would say you need to call at least 45minute to hour.Cats are the slows to come in. I use a Lamb in Distriss call if they are Sheep or goats around.
I will be glad to help you if you need it.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get back to kitty country for a while. I'm stationed at Corpus Christi and stay quite busy. The first chance I get I'm gonna find a place to call out here, even if it's just coyotes.

Hey USMC-Mustang.I lived in Kingsville and Rockport -Fulton areas I know a few great places to call and the ranchers are willing to let you call. I will be talking to a bud that lives on the O'Conner Ranch there at Holiday Beach, and see if he will let you do some calling out there.

Hey USMC-Mustang,
Good luck on the big cat. There are a few of us here trying to score one of those. Everything has to click just right, beginning with having one in the area. I'm trying hard to make it all come together at the same time.
