Is it early for them to come into season, or is it just about right? Out in the woods today, found several places where the female of the species had urinated. In the same spot there was a "bloody-show." This covered a large area where this had happened, on top of about 16 to 20 inches of snow. That is why it was so easily seen. Now, if this was happening, would this account for them not coming into "call" as readily? Sometimes there are somethings more important than food? Just wondering what others have seen!

Females go through a period known as proestrus, which lasts approxamitly 2 to 3 months prior to the actual conception period. The proestrus can start as early as mid December. They will start secreting fluids and glands begin to activate. This may be what your seeing. The actual conception period runs mid to late February here in Texas. Females will carry pups for 60 to 63 days. They will begin den selection in mid April. And start having pups in late April and on into May.
This is for Texas dogs.

Well guys, can't get into that area no-more, snow is just too deep. My 4 wheel drive just won't make it, and I don't want to have to leave it till spring! Have to leave that area to the snowmobiler's now. I should have taken pics of all the tracks for everyone.
