Has anyone hunted coyotes on the Rita Blanca National Grasslands in the Tx panhandle? Heard of a guy who made the trip several years ago, and was extrememly successful. Thinking about making the long drive from San Antonio if I get some positive feedback. Thanks..........Brian

I was going to make a run for the border while I was up there and hit the Kiowa Grasslands on the New Mexico side as well. I haven't checked the price of NM licenses yet, but I don't expect it to be too cost prohibitive. I'd kind of like to know what to expect in the way of terrain, available cover, etc.. If anyone has any comments, please let me know. Thanks Mikie, I appreciate the feedback............Brian

Doorgunner, The grass lands are mostly that grasslands not much in most places to hide, but there are a few clumps of trees and bushes here and there. I would think a gillie or shadow grass would work best in that area, just stay below the ridges. Byron South could probably be more help than most for that area, PM him and see what he has to say, his advice is free and sound.

Doorgunner: I drew an antelope tag in Oklahoma several years ago and hunted the Rita Blanca grasslands on the Oklahoma side. I hunted right on the Texas/ OK line just south of Felt, OK. I saw coyotes daily everywhere I went. The term "grassland " is being generous. Most of the grass was less than three inches tall and not much else for concealment. Most of the land is leased out to ranchers for grazing on the OK side. You can see for miles. Just look for the gentle folds in the land and camo up good.

Brian, I've never hunted there, but from what I've heard it should be good. You might call The Texas Parks and Wildlife, and see what they say. I do most of my hunting in the South Eastern edge of the panhandle, and it can be pretty good there. If you go please let us know what you find out. Wish I could help more.
Good Hunting

Thanks Byron. I didn't want to formalize my plans without checking with you. I knew that you the panhandle was your "stomping grounds", and if anyone would know-you would.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to put in their two cents. I'll let you guys know how this plan materializes................Brian
