I saw one of the prettiest coyotes ever this weekend. According to the rangefinder he was 236 yards. I just watched him chase mice in the pasture for about 20 minutes. I did put the crosshairs on him but didn't shoot. He looked to be as big as my German Shepherd puppy which will weigh 55-60 lbs or a bit more. He was well furred and just a sight to see. Wind was dead calm and about 28 degress. I am certain I could kill him as I shot a mangy one about 3 weeks ago almost in the same place. I hope this one passes on his genes to the next generation. I was deer hunting on family land in East Texas,(450acres) our place is between two commercial chicken houses and he gets to eat the dead chickens that are discarded every day so he has plenty to eat. He would make a beautiful rug but for now I am glad he is still there catching mice and looking pretty. Sometimes you don't have to pull teh trigger to have a good hunt, hope yall understand!

I know exactly how you feel. I let two of the most beautiful yotes that I've ever seen walk past my deer blind about three weeks ago, at about 10 yards. They are fun to watch when they are in the hunting mode. I will probably have a little different perspective in about three weeks, when they are running in to my caller.

;DHey Okie Newton... sometimes that's the RIGHT thing to do! There's no rule that says we have to kill everything that walks out in front of us, even if it's just a coyote. I've done what you did several times, and there have been times that I WISHED that I had done that very thing. I'm fascinated by foxes. They are a beautiful animal in the fall/winter seasons and are fun to watch, especially when they stalk. I watched one catch a mouse and play with it for 30 minutes one afternoon. He was doing his job! And, was having fun doing it! It's all part of being an outdoorsman first and then a hunter!

You know, that's the part that people who don't have the pleasure of hunting will never experience. Just being out in the woods and observing nature and all the happenings. It gives you a better understanding of the complete picture. You don't realize how deep the silence is until you're sittin there being part of it.
You don't have to shoot every time.
Coyotes can have one free pass per year... if my gun jams, a bullet mis-fires, if I forget to chamber a round, if I leave my rifle laying on the ground 80 yds. out there by the decoy setup, and if I have to pee and he walks by right at that moment. Otherwise I'm shootin.
