I have a deer lease in Medina County, where I currently hunt coyotes. I've been wanting to look at some different scenery. Has anyone tried hunting some of the public land that TPWD has in east Texas, for predators. I wouldn't mind shelling out the $50 for a permit, provided that there was some decent hunting in the piney woods. I've got a trip planned to hunt on the Rita Blanca National Grasslands in the Texas Panhandle in the spring, but east Texas is a lot closer. If anyone has any feedback, I sure love to hear it. I'm always looking for new acreage to call on. Thanks........Brian

I have been calling in Sam Houston National Forest. The calling aint easy there, lot of regulations to follow and watch out for, you know blaze orange durring day light, watch where ya park, closed roads one day open the next, can you us a e-caller sometimes yes sometimes no it all depends on who you ask. There are coyotes and bobcats in them piney woods. I taken 2 yotes, one small bobcat and several house cats all at night, no luck durring daylight. Both of the yotes were taken in the areas where the parks service has been clearing the underbrush away for some type of woodpecker nesting program. Them woods are thick in most places, but they are pipeline right of ways and other ulitity easements easily hunted. If you do hunt the National Forest, get the $6.00 map of parks, money well spent and good luck.

Thanks Chickenfoot. I appreciate the lowdown. There is hundreds of thousands of acres over there, and the TPWD has approved predators as huntable game on most of the wma's. Would be nice to see some new country, and break up the same old routine.... ;D...Take care. Brian
