My favorite time of the year is Jan- Feb. For me they seen a little more receptive to calls this time of the year. Also I call in more multibles in Febuary. I've heard many people say that this is the slow time of year. I was wondering what ya'lls thoughts on this are.

Byron, I have always liked January through March. I think it is because there is less prey available and what is avaliable is harder to find. They are hungry. Bob

Byron, I've nearly always done better from October through December, in the past. It seems tht the young coyotes are still pretty dumb, especially in late fall. Until last year, I'd just about quit calling at the end of January, but now I can't wait to call through March and maybe a lot later. I thought I knew how to use a howler, I mean I've called many yotes with several different makes of howlers. Now, after reading and trying to master more of the coyotes actual "language", I find that I've been missing out on a lot. A guy named Major Boddicker, PHD, instructs and has written a lot about the language of the coyote. It's amazing and really works! Later, Bob (gunsetc)

mid september thru january the 10th. i usually stop on the 10 th. the coyotes are ready to pair up and mate or are already pregnant (the females for you guys who flunked biolagy) i didn't want to put the pressure on a single parrent to try and raise a litter of pups. there can't be a bunch of young dumb pups come next fall if they can't survive. if the coyotes become a problem killing calves then it's no mercy time.

November thru March or till it starts gettin hot. Then after it gets hot April thru October. In other words we don't cut em no slack. Best response is Nov. thru March.
The main ranch we hunt was over run with coyotes. After four years and more than 80 coyotes knocked down we are starting to see a difference. No calves or cows killed last spring. We once again are beginning to see rabbits. The quail are making a come back. We now have deer. There are several things that made this comeback possible, but the main thing is killing coyotes and re-establishing this ranch as human territory, rather than coyote hunting land.
They bark and yelp their challenges form across the road or across the river, where they used to walk right by you in broad daylight at sixty yards. Maybe next year I'll let up on em during mating and pup season.
I just looked at Patsy, she's shaking her head no, no let up. I think I've created a monster.

Gunsetc,
Dr. Boddicker also makes a pretty good call.
Patsy,
You go girl ;D. That why God put us over all living beings. I alway's say "I give em a rest through the whelping", but the truth is I'm giving myself a rest. Plus I like to do a little turkey hunting.

Byron, interesting you find Jan and Feb a good time to call. I have always found Jan and Feb tough hunting. As you know I don't hunt in Texas, I hunt California, Arizona and Nevada for the most part. It always seemed the most animals were taken in Aug and Sept in Nevada and Nov, Dec in Arizona, Mexico was about the same as Airzona. Seems to me all that's left in Feb is the real smart ones and the ones that have puppys on there minds. I have to remember you guys in Texas usually hunt pvt land and I don't, maybe that has something to do with it? Oh well, what ever the case I find it interesting, Good Hunting.

Thanks for all the input guys.. I like calling september and october because of the pups as well. but jan- febuary has been good to me. No deer hunters, to cold for the weak hearted, coyotes seem more aggresive-territorial, bobcats on the prowl breeding, less food and more need for it. I alway's call in more multibles , and I like multibles. Pups are fun but I would rather call in the big dogs.
Edit for one more reason I like Jan-Feb.: Cows are calving and my phone is ringing. Had a guy call me a couple of weeks ago, said there were 10 coyotes standing over a cow having a calf when he pulled up. He shot at them but missed. Truth is there were probable only 5 or 6, but I wasn't going to correct him. I just went calling, killed a couple. Tickled him to death.
Danny, (onecoyote) see ya in Silver City. Can't hardely wait.
Thanks again
