What time yotes? I am trying desperately to find a reason for our abysmal record and coyote killers. My latest theory is that we are going to early in the evening. We hunt agricultural land near Midland, Texas. It is remote with lots of yotes but many folks, also. By that, I mean farming activity ends about 30 minutes after sundown and traffic on some of the county roads is sporadic until 9 pm or so. We have been going at about 4-5 pm and staying until about 9 or 10. Have heard some, but called up NONE. My theory is that we are out too early in evening. I hear the landowners tell of being awakened at two and 3 am and always seeing them in the morning. Is that y’all experience of hunting these type areas? Alternatively, are we just pi$$ poor hunters?

I have always liked to call my coyotes in daytime. Early morning, right at first light has always been best, with last hour of light at end of day being second best. I can understand night time calling should be better though. Only thing I can tell you is that mating season is on right now. Coyotes more interested in sex than food. Howling seems to be the big key to calling them during this time.

Hey MarkA,
Like Rich we always go at daylight and dusk. However, when we are going to go at night I usually try to check the moon phase and not go out till after the moon has set. That may be 11:30 or 3;00 am depending on what time of the month.
Other times we just go right after dark regardless of moon phase. We can call em any of those times, but I guess waiting till after the moon sets or before the moon rises has proven best for us with night hunting.
Oh yea, then there's the times when none of that stuff matters. Try the moon phases. Get an Almanac. It may work for you. Hope this helps. Keep pushing.
