I am soon to be heading to to south tex for hogs and critters. I will be taking along my Benelli for predators and wonder if anyone out there with some experience in shotgunning critters could suggest a good load for fox, bobcat, and coyotes. I aready picked up a box of 3 1/2 inch #5 loads (turkey shells) and am wondering if 5's are going to be light. I also figures on shooting full choke. Any better suggestions and tips would be appreciated. Thanks

1.5 oz LE slugs ;D Just make sure you don't have a choke in. I also like the 00 buckshot if you are in a close range.

I just recently recieved a new load from Hevi-Shot for testing. It's called "Dead Coyote". It has 50 T size pellets heavier than lead (Tungstun-Iron). They leave the muzzle at 1350 fps. I have done some patterning this week with them, and they look promising. I'm leaving today for West Texas-Panhandle for a couple of weeks when I get back I'll let ya'll know how I like them. They should be available by May in stores. I've had good results in the past with everything from BB's to 3" #4 buck. Modified choke has almost always given me tighter patterns with the big shot. It's always a good Idea to check your shotgun and see which choke works best though. Be back in a couple of weeks. Good Hunting Byron

I don't have a suggested load, but I would like to find #4 with BB's in a 3". I don't know if they make it, so if they see this they may make some $ off an idea. If anyone has heard if they do let me know.
God Bless,

BozoWise, I tried 00 buck years ago and soon found out that animals sometimes got up and left the seen of the crime. :-/I started thinking, how in the heck could that happen when 00 buck is used on men by the police? ???Awww, only 9 pellets making it easy to miss a finishing shot on smaller then man sized animal. After that we tried #2 buck and found out it killed em but not good enough. #4 buck was the answer and we have been doing it every since. Just relating my thoughts, don't mean it's in stone lol, good luck. ;D

To each his own. #4 buck or #0 buck should work well. Pattern your shotgun with whatever you decide on first. That way you know exactly what your gun is going to do at a known distance. This is so important, and is overlooked 99.9% of the time. You wouldn't go calling with a rifle that isn't zeroed, so why would you gamble with a shotgun that you don't know the pattern of?

Good analogy doorgunner, I like the term "You wouldnt go calling with a rifle that isnt zeroed" That would solve alot of peoples problems and questions. By the way you may want to keep the gun pointed away from your face next time. Nasty facial wounds. At least it looks like they healed well. I think ;D. txpred
