Ok, Ok here it goes. Everyone has an opinion on the moon and how it affects the animals. Well this weekend looks to be a NO moon weekend. I was kinda wondering what the opinion of everyone is, on how the predator hunting is with no moon (Hunting during the daylight hours, Not spotlighting). Since there is not much light at night, do you think they will be up moving more during the day and longer, or no change in their behavior what so ever? Opinions are great, but facts are better…. What do you think??? Happy hunt'n Curt

Hey Hooter, Sounds good, we can get together sometime. Right now I'm looking for that big ol' kitty kat. Thanks for the welcome though. This is not our first encouner together on this forum though.. Go check out the one "Saw one Today" I think that you started it last week or so. Anyhow we replied to each other a few times. Any how, I know how it is when you get yoter on the mind, every thing else is on the back burner. E-mail me sometime, and maybe we can go call a Yoter or two or three, or four..... ;D Hey Wind, I checked out that website. Thanks for the good info. according to the chart, everything should be up feeding most of the day on Sat and Sun. Hopefully I'll find that Kitty Kat looking to munch on a crying deer. Any one else have an opinion or facts on the subject? Happy Hunt'n Curt

Hey Curt, I personally have never noticed any difference with the moon for day time hunting. They seem to come in either way. It makes sense that they may be more apt to come in during a new moon for the reasons you stated. Hopefully some of our real recored keepers will chime in. I know a few members have kept very detailed records along this line. Good luck with "Mr. Kitty"! Bob

Curt, I am not sure how the new moon affects hunting big cats during the day time, however, they are very active at night during the new moon . Deer are not as active on dark nights and are easier to ambush in their beds. Day hunting might not be as good as you think. Early and late will be best. If a cat is hungry, you can call him in. Female cougar in heat is also a good sound right now, especially at night. Bob

www.heuristicresearch.com/fishbyte.htmlThe above is the software I have been using. I am very interested in this subject for hunting and fishing. Here is what I know so far using limited hunting/fishing observations: 1. Animals and fish are different (duh) and DO NOT follow the same pattern. Solunar data for fishing does not cut it for animals. Fish are MUCH more Moon orientated than animals. 2. Large and small animals are effected differently. 3. The Small Animals we hunt DO NOT like the Moon, rabbits anyway, and I have to try to tie my Coyote findings to rabbits cuz I can much more easily see the rabbits than I can the coyotes. 4. This weekend is the Snyder Contest, here's what my software says: FishByte5 Small Game report, Fri., Feb. 20, 2004 Any hour and weather Sorting: [unsorted] Midland, TX Fri., Feb. 20, 2004 Sunrise: 07:26 am Sunset: 06:38 pm Moonrise: 07:52 am Moonset: 07:11 pm New moon, Excellent day Weather: ? MarkA, Being and ole trotline fisherman, there is one thing I know for certain, catfish don't pay any attention to these lunar tables. Fishbite is nowhere as predictable as some "experts" would have you believe. The moon phases do affect deer movement and activity. Rodents and small game stay in cover when the moon is bright because they know they can be seen by predators and owls easier. Weather is the biggest factor I consider when predator hunting, but I like night hunting at the dark phases of the moon because it is easier for me to remain unseen. There are exceptions to every rule. Bob

Predatory animals are affected by the moon in a seccondary placing, (IE) the game they are after move diferently with changing moon phase and therefore change their movements.
I have kept detailed reccords for 16 years and have found that my hunting success goes up an average of 12% on days following a NO moon night but only drop an average of 9% on days following full moon nights. Go figure??? so in answer to your question. Yes your odds on coyotes do go up, as far as cats I realy have no data to help you there.

Oh boy, this subject is always fun lol. All I can say is I have more then 40 years experience doing it and I've learned much of what I know from guys that have been doing it for more then 50 years, d**n I'm old lol. No dought the best time to hunt at night is a new moon or close to it. Day hunting is another story, if the moon is full at night the animals are much spooker and usually don't eat as much because it's harder to get food, so they are more apt to be abound during the day. If you don't believe me that's fine lol. Think about it this way, if the best time to hunt at night is a new moon and the worst time is a full moon, then a full moon must be the best time to hunt during the day right? lol.......I love this subject.
