I have called several racoons in while predator calling with prey distress sounds. I just let them come in and head back out again. They usually come running. I would like to target some racoons for their pelts and a mount. Let me hear from you 'coon hunters. I know that coon squallers are supposed to work well and the racoon fight tape is supposed to be a killer. Do you call at dusk or just night call exclusively?

Do you use dogs or just try to light 'em up as you go? Have you done any calling at night for 'coons?

My friends have used dogs but, I haven't. Use to hunt on the San Marcos River just outside of Gonzales,Tx. We had about a 100 acres with most of it on the river, aunt sold it to my great grandfarthers friend while I was in the military for $100/acre . Drop some ears of corn out in the daytime and just wait until night. I was shooting a single shot 22lr, got pretty good at it cause I knew how long it would take to reload. My friends always believed in using a 22win mag. Only thing you had to worry about was the Night Squirrels scaring you and the Cotton Mouths that would come out.

We have called them down around Magnolia. Call from the back of a truck light them up and go get them. Have a river running thru the property so there are quite a few.

;DHad the best set up for coon hunt a few years ago. We were on Hog Creek near Valley Mills at night, the creek was between two large corn fields. The farmer came down with his two sons and 3 dogs. In less than two hours and within 100 yard area, we killed 22 coons! The farmer's words"... I knew I had a problem, but didn't think it was this bad!" We collected the coons and sold the pelts.

:(Shoot C.D. We were too tuckered to do much of any thing! The dogs would no more than get one treed, we'd move on to the next. Never got so tired of seeing little RED DOTS in those tree! And, there were 3 pretty tired dogs too! We had a great time tho!
Oh yeah, one of the young dogs was attacked by a big momma coon. The young dog had caught a baby coon in the creek, the momma jumped on the dog's head and she was giving him a fit, till the other 2 dogs arrived to 'SAVE THE DAY"! they ended up treeing the momma and baby!

Bobcat.. Coons come knocking at my back door every night for a hand out. First they eat the cat food. Then they send little Mikey to knock on the glass. It's the smallest one. He will knock on the french door. My wife started feeding them and now there are 3 or 4 a night begging. They love Saltine crackers! Must be the salt. She used to go out to feed them until one day a real big one showed up and started kicking all the little ones butts for the food. I told her to keep inside from now on.. Little Mikey would take crackers from her hand.

Here's a couple of coons and three squirrels. It started as a squirrel hunt but we saw more coons than squirrels in the neches river bottom.
