The idea of an electronic caller has never seemed like a pressing issue with me. I've always prefered mouth call, and enjoyed making some of my own. I have had several friend that used elect. callers, and I have hunted with them many times........ Just never gave any thought to buying one myself. Well I ran across this on another forum and gave it a try. Keep in mind,,,,, this is not competition with Foxpro's or Loadmouth calls. It's just not in the same class. It was fun and I only have about $45 in the project. I haven't tryed it in the field yet, but sounds OK on the front porch. I was wondering if anyone else has done this. Check the link and let me know. www.predatormastersforums.com/homemadeecaller.htmlGood shootin, MaBell

Yeah, I have one of them too. I really like it. It gives me the ability to use my own calls and calling, but have the sound come from "over there". And at night it frees up my hands to do other chores, like holding the gun and spotlight. I use a walkman tape player, and I like that I can make sound loops as long as I want, or I can buy any of the commercially available tapes or CDs and use them too. With the addition of an Azden remote system, you'd have every bit as good of a unit as the big guys are selling, without a fancy flashlight housing. (no offense to the big guys). Krusty

MB, Azden is a company that makes wireless microphone systems (like you see people on TV wearing). It has a transmitter and a reciever, like a one way set of walkie talkies. They run anywhere from $75-$135 depending on where you get one, e-bay is supposed to be a good place. You want the WLX Pro model (but there is also one, from another company, called the Nady 151VR-LT). You then get a patch cord from Radio Shack, and plug your driver (tape, CD, Mp3 whatever) into the transmitter. Plug the speaker's cord into the reciever (which replaces your mini-amp) and set them way over there... You can then adjust volume, start and stop, or change sounds as needed from where you are. There is a guy goes by Yacolt Yote (on Predator Masters) I believe he sells the Azdens and all the cords and stuff you need to set em up. If I can be of any more help lemme know. Krusty

Rick got himself one of them fancy Loudmouth flashlight housings... they cost like $500 or something , but they throw in an e-caller with it. The one thing I really did like about the flashlight housing, when I drew down on Rick's LM, I was really impressed at how well it framed the target dot reticle on my old scope! LOL I was so tempted to blow it away, but Rick would made me walk home. Hey Rick, e-mail me with your ph#, I can't seem to find it. Krusty

HUNTER, You need one of these (a mini amp); It's called a power amplified speaker, and the guys at your local Radio Shack are gonna say they don't have it anymore. Order it from the online store here for $11.99 US. After you take the screw out of the housing on the mini amp to put in the battery, toss it. I use a stout rubber band to hold the back on, so I can make quick battery changes in the field without a tiny phillips screwdriver. The 9v battery should last many days of calling, unless it is very very cold. You don't want to turn the mini amp up too far, it creates more "hiss" in the powerhorn. About as far as it would go up in one motion is all it needs, then turn your driver (CD, tape, MP3 player) up until it's as loud as you want. The mini amp alone, without the horn speaker plugged in is going to be enough on some quiet days, or closed in stands. I also feel like it has a better range of sound, playing high pitched birdie like noises much better, and not as tinny, as the horn. I have about 40' of speaker wire going from my mini amp (which is velcro'd to the back of my Walkman) to my horn speaker, which I wind around the speaker and secure with a loop of 1/4" bungy cord between stands. More than long enough to have the critters attention "over there" instead of on me, I believe (my bro wants more wire, but he don't coil it up or out). I hope this helps, lemme know if ya got anymore questions. Krusty

Hey guys! These homemade E-callers work very well and you can house them in anything that suits your needs or likes! I built one last Friday and called in my first ever Bobcat with it on Saturday evening! I also like that you can play what ever you want to with them, I just carry mine around in a backpack, I have both a CD player and a tape player, Just plug in whichever player into the amp that you want to use, The CD player seems clearer but the bobcat kinda seemed to like the chickens on the regular tape player! If you have a player of somekind laying around the house you can have a decent e-caller for just over $40.00!
