Got some sounds loaded into the new Loudmouth and just couldn't stand it this morning. Headed out and made 3 stands before noon. I guess I had typical newbie luck. Didn't see anything but a jackrabbit. The Loudmouth worked great. No problems with the caller or remote. I'm going to have to watch that Randy Anderson DVD again! Bozowise and Dead Eye.....................I think I need some coaching. ;D Hooter.......no longer Shooter.

.....make sure you don't have it turned up too loud. Don't mess with changing sounds on a stand at first. What sound did you use? Were you calling where there was coyote sign? Did you call into the wind or at least cross-wind? Did you hide your truck and exit it VERY quietly not banging the door closed? Did you sneak in unseen and unheard? Are you using a small stool to get you up off the ground? Are you sitting still? Are you scanning both close in and far away? ....and did I ask if your were sitting still? ....and most importantly, did you bathe in skunk scent before you started calling......this is very important in New Mexico...... ;D ;D We will get you up and running even if I have to come out there and help! I am sure Dead Eye and Bozo will be able to hook up with you before long. Good Hunting, Bob

It was a nice short learning session this morning. I didn't have a stool to sit on, so I sat on the ground. Learned real fast that my hind end and legs go to sleep in about 10 minutes doing that. I did hide my truck. Parked it at some oil field sites that I'm sure the coyotes see trucks and human activity all the time. Wind was a slight problem this morning. It started out blowing from the North East and then switched back to its normal Southerly direction about mid-morning. I did call into or cross wind. I tried using a jackrabbit distress and a cottontail distress call this morning. I didn't see much sign in the area I hunted. I have heard coyotes barking and howling in the area before while duck hunting the small lake that is very close. I am sure I made all the rookie mistakes this morning and I know that I have a learning process to go through. I just need to do some more scouting and find more coyote sign to be sure I'm in an area they are using. No skunk sent for me Bobcat! My wife broke me of that a long time ago. I've got to go find me a stool to sit on. ;D Hooter

Hey Hooter,
Get yourself a stool and go back out there. You will call some in. None of us calls 'em in every time out. Hearing coyotes in the area you are calling is coyote sign. It is not just tracks and scat. You are on the right track.
Were you in full camo including face and hands?
Good Hunting,
Bob

Yep...........full camo face and hands. Since I haven't purchased a coyote gun yet, I took my trusty 280 Browning along this morning just in case. Don't worry Bobcat...............I'll be back out there soon. Heck I haven't even seen a coyote yet and I'm hooked. Hooter

Very sound advise from Bobcat. The 3 biggest mistakes when using the Loudmouth (1) To much VOLUME (2) Channel surfing (pick 1 or 2 calls and stick with them the entire stand) (3) Not bringing enough ammo.
Good hunting,
AP

Thanks for the reply AP. Volume may be a big problem for me and the Loudmouth. I have a substantial hearing loss due to too many guns without hearing protection in my young and dumb days, and working around loud oilfield equipment for 30 years. I'm sure if I turn up the volume loud enough for me to hear it, it's probably too loud for the coyotes. I will have to work on that for sure. I hope that some day the ammunition problem really happens. Hooter

Hey Hooter,
Next time you turn your Loudmouth on, listen to it from behind and then go around directly in front of it. You will be amazed at the difference and how loud it is from the front. It is very directional.
Keep us posted.........
Good Hunting,
Bob
