NRA Statement on Passage of Reckless Lawsuit Preemption Bill
In the second veto override in support of gun rights this week, the Missouri Legislature passed legislation banning frivolous lawsuits against the firearms industry (SB 13). This victory for Second Amendment rights in Missouri follows yesterday's passage of the nation's 36th Right-to-Carry law.
Instead of getting tough on violent criminals, Governor Holden chose to side with greedy trail lawyers and the gun-ban lobby to diminish the rights of law-abiding citizens. Now, thanks to the overwhelming support of the Missouri House of Representatives and Senate, baseless lawsuits designed solely to bankrupt law-abiding firearms manufacturers and retailers will be banned. Missouri is the 33rd state to enact such a law.
On behalf of law-abiding gun owners throughout Missouri, the National Rifle Association (NRA) would like to thank Representative Larry Crawford, Representative Frank Barnitz, Representative Rod Jetton, Senator Harold Caskey, Senator Peter Kinder and all of the leaders and supporters of this common sense law.
