I recently put a new scope on my 7-08 Remington model 7 and I finally made it to the range and got it dialed in yesterday. The scope is one of the relatively new Burris FullField II models, it has the Ballistic Plex reticle with hold over dots.
I had worked up a load using Varget powder and a 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, it produced 3 shot groups smaller than an inch on my backyard 100 yard range. I wanted to see what it would do at longer ranges, so I took it to the club yesterday to stretch its legs. I set the scope so that the first hold over dot was dead on at 200, then I moved to the silhouette range to check the other dots. I set up on the shooting sticks and started with the 300 (~325 yards)meter pigs. The second dot was dead on for this range. So far so good, I held the third dot on a turkey at 400 meters, squeezed the trigger and took it off the rail. I adjusted position slighty and held the point of the bottom duplex on the ram at 500 meters, the trigger broke and it was history too!
I don't plan to shoot more than 300 yards, but it sure is comforting to know that I have more reach if I need it!

Hey GH, I think you are ready for the speed-goat hunt! Burris really hit the target with the ballistic plex reticle. I noticed that their light gathering ability has increased also!! If you didn't get that 7mm-08 dialed in, I figured you would just take the .50 BMG, sit on a hill, and take one at a mile or so? Good Hunting, Bob

You know, I hadn't thought about the 50......know where I can get a pintle mount for my 4 wheeler? I'd really like to shoot something with it......maybe I'll bring it down there and shoot a hog? ;D

I have the Full Field II 3-9x40mm Ballistic Plex on my 7saum. Nice scope. The plex lines really do work too. By playing with a ballistic program, it seemed that if I was .3" low at 100 yards, I'd be dead-on at 300 yards. Here is where my rifle put them @ 300y (1.6" group ~ high shot is diff. bullet weight). P.S., I do like the 7mm-08 class cartridges, my 260 is just awesome.

GH,
I just picked up a 7mm-08 and was getting ready to start some load development. I am thinking of using a 120gr bullet. If it's not too much trouble, what was the final recipe for that load you came up with?
Thanks

44 grains of Varget, a 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip and a Winchester LR primer in remington cases

BW,
You will really like the 7mm-08. I just got another one started. I am going to work up a load with the 127gr. Groove bullets. I will have it for my pronghorn hunt out your way next fall!!
I decided to top this one with the Burris FF-II 3-9x40 Matte with the Ballistic Plex reticle. GH has really liked his. He took one of them to Africa for plains game. Todd, you reinforced my decision. This will only be my second Burris scope. My other one was a 2-7x32 pistol scope on my 7-30 Waters Contender.
