I use a 50 grain moly v-max. I am completley happy. I put 36 gain vaget behind it . he 22- 250 pushes 3700. But I load it for tightness instead of speed. Jay, you hit a dog in the chest and it recovered? WOW. what was you shoot'n. I have experienced crazy stuff lke but with different bullets and guns.
God Bless, SONG DOG

I use the factory 40gr rounds in my 15" 22-250 Encore and in my Rem. 700 I load the 55gr V-Max and 53 gr Match BTHP's.
One hole groups at 100yds with the rifle. I just started with the Encore and I am still working on a load for it.

My Bushmaster loves the 50 gr. V-Max. They are awesome on prairie dogs. They seem to be more explosive than the Ballistic Tips. I have never used them on coyotes, however.
I also use 65 gr. V-Max in my 6mm Remington. First group with them (3 shots) went .221". Also shot a prairie dog a 684 yards that day. You couldn't wipe the grin off my face. ;D

Moose57, You nailed it. The VMax group real well and are great on smaller critters and probably 85% effective on coyotes. When I shoot a coyote, I want it down and the 55 grain VMax out of a 223 is not all that decisive.

i agree with all of ya......the v-maxes are super accurate....but like jay said ........they do not get good reviews for killing qualilties.......if we keep them out of the shoulder they ( the coyotes) would run a ways before piling up. in the shoulder ......... blow up and sometimes a lost coyote with a nasty wound...... next will be the 1365 sierra( bobcat's recommendation) for me.

Got back from the range today after sighting in my new short range varmint rifle (Ruger 77/22 .22 Hornet VHZ) I rolled up some 35gr Hornady V-Max pushed with 13.5 grs. of LiL'Gun. I very happy with this load, Could bust quarters all day. Maybe with a new trigger, nickels. I had loaded several different bullets, 35, 40, 45 and 50 with different powder weights. The 35 grs V-Max was by far the best grouping without any flyer.

Chickenfoot - First of all - welcome to the board. I live just south of you .
Which range do you go to? I normally go to Carter Country on Treschwig in Houston, but am looking for something a little closer.
thanks.

Hey ICMCunin. I also go to Carter County, But there is anough one on FM 2854 off the Conroe loop west . I like this one better. They are open Tuesday through Saturday. You can set-up in the middle beanches and shoot at 25, 50, 100 and 200 yards all same location. Nice folks there, they also have a crackerjack gunsmith on staff. There is an enough one even closer to ya, it is located on FM 1344 off of FM 242 east. They have a 300 yd range when ya feel the need to go long distance.
Let me known if ya need any more info.
