Is anyone shooting the new Savage rifles? They have sure done a turn around the past several years. They are real tackdrivers out of the box. The Model 11FNS looks to be an ideal calling rifle in .223, 22-250, or .243. It has a 22" barrel and only weighs 6 1/2 lbs....and you can get them for about $355. They are not the prettiest girl at the dance, but appear to do the job.
Who is using one or has shot one?

I have a 12BVSS in 22-250 that shoots real well. I was (or still am I guess) a die hard Remington fan, but once I tried the new Accutrigger... I was sold. The trigger was the only thing I didn't like about the Savage... now they have that fixed. I topped it off with a Leupold LRT 6.5-20 and it's one of my favorite Prairie Doggin rigs. It aint no carry gun though!

texasshooter,
Yeh, I have been pretty well married to Remington as well. Their quality control has just continued to drop the past several years while Savage's continues to climb. I am certainly thinking of giving a Savage a try.
Good Hunting,

The more first hand reports I get on the Savage, the more impressed I am.
Thanks,

Bobcat, I have two savages a 12bvss (timney trigger)and a 12fvss ( accu trigger ) and both are shooters, looking to buy another one for my little woman, made the mistake of taking her pdoggin and she loves it. They are capable of shootin better than I can on most days. But I did look at a kimber 84 longmaster the other day , sure was pretty.

I've never owned one, but all the good press is making me re-think the issue. They are still as ugly as dirt, but they sure seem to shoot well.
I've been toying with the idea of buying one in 22/250 and getting a barrel in 22BR built for it. Sounds like you can change barrels at home and set headspace, etc. fairly easily. I may give it a try this winter.

I have a new Savage mdl 11 in 22-250. After breaking it in, fire 1, then clean for 5 rounds. Fire 2, then clean for 10 rounds, I shot a sightin group that measured 1/4 inch with factory ammo. And I had a wittness.
Needless to say I'm very impressed with Savage. I did replace the factory trigger with one from Sharp Shooters Supply after shooting the 1/4 inch group but haven't shot any groups with it.
If you're in the market for a new rifle give Savage a look.

Bobcat, I don't know if you have heard of Sharp Shooter Supply or not. Fred and his employees do great things to and with Savage rifles. And as a bonus the prices are great. I had them work over a 10fp in 223. The rifle will never be a walking varment rifle but it will sure shoot into one small hole. buzzsaw

Hey Doc, I had a 13" 7-30 Waters Contender built for me by Virgin Valley Custom Guns. I dearly loved it. It was just the ticket for what you are talking about. With that said, GonHuntin has pretty much got me talked in to a Competitor next time around. You can use the larger calibers in them like the Encore. You might check them out. They seem to balance much better. Here is a link: www.competitor-pistol.com/index.htmlGood Hunting, Bob
