Finally made it to the range this afternoon to sight in the new Weatherby SPM. This is my first bolt gun in .223 and my first Weatherby. Conditions were not ideal for real accurate shooting. It was pretty windy this afternoon with 10 to 15 mph winds. This rifle still managed to shoot 3/4" groups at 100 yards. Busted some 2" swingers at 200 yards with no problem. It seems to like the 55 gr. Nosler BT Ballistic Tips best. It also grouped the 50 gr. V-Max and the 52 gr. Hornady Match HP's at less than 1". Under ideal conditions and a little more load work, I feel like this rifel is capable of 1/2" or less goups. ;D I'm very pleased at this point to say the least............ Hooter

Can you tell us if the barrel was easy to clean-up, or not. I've heard they have a very smooth bore and therefore don't foul very bad. I'm asking because I've thought about one in .223 also. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks, MaBell

Hey Hooter, It sounds like you are going to have a shooter! That is really a custom rifle. Tell me again how your wife told you to get that one.............where am I going wrong? Good Hunting, Bob

MaBell.........the barrel was very easy to clean up. I cleaned the barrel after every 3 shot group for the first 15 rounds. No problem at all. Just ran a couple of patches through that didn't come out very dirty at all. The trigger is very nice. Breaks at a nice crisp 4#. I would like to get it down in the 2# range, but it is very usable like it is. If I do my part a coyote at 200 yards is toast! I am very pleased with the rifle after todays sight-in session. Bobcat.............my wife has hunted and fished with me for the last 29 years. She knows a nice gun when she sees it. You just have to train them right from day one! Hooter

Congrats Hooter! That's a sweet rifle, and Krieger barrels rock! I am a little depressed that you wont be sending to Doorgunner's Home for Wayward Rifles (DHWR). Go kill some yotes with it, and come back and tell us how it did!

Well Hooter, it sounds like that rifle is in good hands. I might consider making the trip later in the spring (about May), if you need a hunting partner.

OK Hooter, what's the coyote body count up to. Surely you've blooded the new Weatherby by now!

Just got back from Houston. Been down there 4 days for company meetings. No coyotes yet. Covered 90 miles scoutting last Sunday morning before the Super Bowl. Made one stand in a good looking spot with no success. Found some good looking calling locations last weekend. Hope to spend this weekend doing more hunting than scoutting. Hooter

I got to see that rifle. I've never seen a weatherby I didn't want to buy. OK Hooter you just need to pack up the loudmouth, weatherby and plenty of ammo and meet me halfway between Hobbs and Carlsbad so we can go yote busting Call me at work or home sometime bud.
