I think you did fine, I do not know about $ value but you have a much better calling rifle. I avoid heavy barrels. Carl

If you have anymore heavy barrels to trade let me know. I would have paid cash for the 25-06. Any trade is good as long as your happy though

i have 2 more hvy brls but they are .22 caliber. my dpms low pro classic 16"(.223) isnt going anywhere......it shoots too good. the other is a ruger 10/22 target rifle but i dont know what model it is. the forearm is hollow as to where you can touch the underside of the brl. dont make fun of me!!!!!!!! yeah the 25-06 was atack driver but was too heavy to hunt with (stalking). with no pills in it was 9lbs. plus the brl was too long. the gun is almost as tall as me. so i decided to trade. almost got a tikka but it was not quite what i wanted. i was also kinda leary about the remmy because of all the problems with their scatterguns but my buddy reassured me that he has not had any remmy rifles come back with problems.

Bigj, I have two model 12 savages and am extremely happy with both, one is 12bvss and the other 12fvss, both are great shooters, but too heavy for carry/field guns, excellent table shooters though.

The .243 is an ideal rifle for Texas - I have hunted varmints, rams and deer with mine.

OK people got HOGS out the wazoo up here in East Texas going to buy me and AR-15 think its going to be a short one like a 16 inch barrel carbine go fishing you have to fight them off at times DO Y'all think it has enough power or should go to a 308

If you are wanting to get a hog rifle, I would go with the .308. I use a 7mm-08. If you want an all around varmint rifle with the odd hog thrown in, the .223 will do just fine. Just make sure you place your .223 shot right behind the ear and don't try a heart shot. I would rather rack the bolt on a larger caliber than have a mag full of .223 with a wounded hog. Good Hunting, Bob ......or, just get both!!
