What are the options in low priced rifles in .223, 22-250, or 25.06? I'm looking for a rifle to take out on the ranch that is easy to carry and good for coyotes and bobcats. Thanks for the info.

The low end would include the NEF singleshot.....not a bad little rifle for the money!

I love my Savages. You can get a real basic .223 with scope for around $350 last time I checked.

Also look into a Howa they are made on the same tooling as a Weatherby Vanguard and I have had great luck with the 5-6 I have owned in the last few years.

I certainly didn't know that a Howa was made on the same tooling as a Vangard, see you can learn stuff on here. So many rifles too choose from and so little money. Should have been born rich instead of good lookin.

All Vanguards are based on an action using a one-piece forged and machined, flat bottomed receiver and a machined steel bolt with dual opposed locking lugs. This modified Mauser action is built by Howa in Tokyo, Japan. Incidentally, until 1995 (when production was switched to the U.S.) Mark V actions were also made in Japan, but by Miroku in the city of Kochi.
The stocks on a Vanguard are interchangeable with the Howa.

Hey Bennie you can learn a lot on this site.I beleive you missed the boat on both rich and good looks. The Savage model 12fvss is great fotr the money, and will shoot just about any ammo accurately factory or other wise.

For totin in the field the model 12 is awfully heavy, but is a really great shooter. For a carry rifle the lighter wieght savages would be the better op, but there are many models and opinions, just don't listen to Mikie, the treatments he's taking are working, but progress is slow.

I agree with BW - the Howa / Vanguard gives as much bang for the buck as you can get.
I bought a Weatherby Vanguard at WalMart a couple of years ago for less than $400. Well constructed and accurate rifle.
I think Academy is selling the Howa for about the same price.
I'd buy another one.

Thanks for the options!!! I'll have to start looking around to see if I can find one of these rifles at a good price.

Any one of the following will do great for an inexpensive predator carry rifle.......
All can be had for under $400 new.......used is good too!
Savage Model 11 Series
Remington 700 ADL Synthetic
Howa/Vanguard/S&W 1500 (all the same gun)
