Well Ive never hunted anything larger than jackrabbits before but Im ready to start big game hunting. I havent hunted in years (lost interest, marriage, drag racing) but Ive regained interest. My questions are I only have a shotgun (rem 870), but Iv been looking around to find good deals. I plan to do some ram hunting, found an inexpensive place to shoot 180.00$$, so I really want a .243. Wal-Mart has some good rifles and good prices, scopes?? Im not as a hard core as you guys to buy loppies , Ill start with nikons. I also want to do some predator hunting so I was thinking of a .223. Academy has a Rossi single shot for 143.00$$. Does anyone own one of these?? I also have a great deal on a Marlin lever action 30-30 for 149.00$$ for hogs. I dont have money to burn and these will be my starter rifles till get more hardcore like you guy:). Well what do you quys think, any info helpfull.

Welcome back to the world of hunting!! ;D I'll let some of the experts reply regarding the calibers but I am curious as to where you were planning on going ram hunting. I know of only one place in Texas that offers rams for $180......

The .243 also can be shot as a varmint gun. they make 55 grain balistic silver tips by Winchester. So my inexpert advise is if you plan to get 2 rifles, get something bigger like a .270 etc to go along with the .223, 22.250 size gun.
