I was browsing my latest issue of Predator Xtreme magazine, and spotted an interesting advertisement for a bore solvent called "Copper Melt". Now having used Butch's Bore Shine, Sweet's, and a few others, I have always returned to Hoppe's. These guys are advertising that their stuff is safe for your bore, and will not require fouling shots after cleaning, to get it to return back to the same group, non-abrasive, no scrubbing with a bore brush, etc. I'm going to get some, but just curious if anyone here has tried this stuff before. Thanks!

doorgunner,
I have not used it, but the folks that have tried it like it. They say it is not as easy to use as advertised so you may end up using more of it. I have no doubt that it works, but it is just too expensive for me at $29.95 plus $7.50 shipping for 3.5 ounces, I don't think I will take it for a spin just yet. I also use Butch's. Montana Extreme is also very good and there is good old Sweet's and CR-10. The guys using Wipeout are really singing it's praises as well. Let us know how you like it!

Ouch! $29.95 + $8 to ship? That's a little much for bore solvent. I might just stick to Hoppe's Benchrest and Sweets. Thanks for the "heads up" Bobcat!

Try a product called WipeOut....it is a foam and it REALLY works! It contanins no ammonia, so you can leave it in the bore overnight if desired! It is by far the best and easiest to use cleaner I have found.....

Do you use WipeOut like you would Sweets, or do you use a bronze brush and scrub like with Hoppe's? Inquiring minds want to know.

That looks interesting. How does it perform in your opinion on copper fouling? The price sure is right.

GH,
Didn't I see where someone is marketing chamber plugs for use with Wipe-Out?
Are you applying it with a bore guide or through the crown?

If it works as advertised, it sure would make bore cleaning a lot easier.

I works very well on copper.....I was skeptical so I used Sweets after I used Wipeout.....the sweets showed no copper! I apply mine through the muzzle while holding a finger in the chamber......it takes a few tries to get it the hang of it......if you don't use enough, the barrel doesn't completely fill with foam....if you use too much, the foam expands out of both ends of the barrel! I hold a finger in the chamber and give it a 2 second squirt of foam and hold my finger in the chamber until the foam stops expanding out the muzzle.....then I check to make sure the chamber has foam in it......if the chamber has foam in it, the barrel is full.....then, the gun is positioned with the muzzle slightly down hill so any liquid will drip out the muzzle instead of into the action.....if you completely plug the chamber, then you may not get the barrel full of foam due to the air that is trapped as the foam expands from the muzzle......it sounds much more complicated than it actually is!
This stuff just works! By the way, doorgunner commented that it isn't expensive......he is right, especially when you figure how many barrels you can clean with one can......I have been using it for about a year......I have cleaned a bunch of rifles including my 50 bmg.....and I still haven't used a whole can!!! I will never go back to conventional cleaning methods!
Try some....it's the good stuff!

GH: Are you buying this locally, or have you been ordering it. I'm sold on the idea. Hey Bobcat, can we get this anywhere here in San Antonio?

Thanks GH!
DG-I have not seen it here yet. I know that Midway carries it for $12.45.

Well between Midway, Natchez, and Brownells, they get most of the money that I make anyway. So I guess another $13 won't break me. LOL ;D

I buy mine locally for $10.95 a can.....but I'm 8 hours from you guys.......I know Midway has it and I heard MidSouth does too??? I have a 700 in 300 win that use to take me a couple hours with brushes and sweets to get all the copper out......I now shoot the bore full of foam and walk away for an hour while the Wipeout does its job......maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like the bore is fouling much less since I started using Wipeout......before, I had to clean every 15 rounds or accuracy would go south......I don't have that problem now......could be that the barrel is finally smoothed up enough that fouling is reduced....I don't know, but I do know it isn't fouling like it did before? ? This is one product that is worth the price of admission!

You have me sold on it GH. I'm going to try it on my .223, which seems to like to foul a little heavier than I'm accustomed to.
