Finally got a chance to shoot the new Model 7 (243) today and I'm happy with the results so far. I adjusted the factory trigger last week and was waiting for a day with little wind and NO RAIN! I started out with an old favorite load of H414 and the 70 grain ballistic tip (already had a box loaded)......it didn't group very well (about 2"), showing horizontal stringing.....but I was shooting at a 1" X 1.5" orange square and that was probably part of the problem......I decided to head back to the reloading room and try something a bit different......I dug out some Sierra 85 grain flat based spitzers and H414.....loaded 44.5 grain of the H414, seated the sierras on top and walked back out to the range. I grabbed some new targets I printed last week off the USPALMA website.....they have a black diamond on a white background with 1" grids.......got all set up and put the 3 sierras into a .759" group! That is about as good as I can shoot with a 2X7 scope......Chrono said 3100 and change.......
I think I'll use the 85 grain bullet as my all around load.....it should be very decisive on coyotes and should work about as well on our smaller deer if I have an opportunity to use it on one......I'm sure I can get the 70 grain Ballistic Tips to work with a bit of tweaking....... but I have a bunch of the 85 grain bullets, so they will probably be used most.

The stock is great......I'm trying not to like it too much because I can't afford to replace the stocks on my other Model Sevens! ;D
