Bronc, they are not the cheapest around, but I have always had good luck with Brownells and hard to find parts.

Thanx Texasshooter! Do you know anything about re-fitting a Sako extractor to it ?

Bronc: Fitting a Sako extractor to a Remington 700 or 721 bolt is a major undertaking. Be sure that if you have it done, that the gunsmith is experienced in doing it. It requires milling a slot in the bolt head, and if it's not done correctly, your in for some serious extraction problems. Check with Gun Parts Inc. in Numerich, NY for spare 721 parts. I doubt seriously that Brownells will have parts for a gun that old. In my honest opinion, retrofitting a 700/721 bolt head to accept a Sako extractor is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. It's your weapon, do as you please.

Well Brownell's carry's the Sako style extractor kit. I think that you might be shocked at the parts and labor charge to perform this mod. The average cost per man & machine hour in labor is between $50-$95, The cost average for just man hour work is $40-$80/hr., and the cost of the extractor kit is $32.55. Remember the cuts made to the bolt head need to be cut at a precise 34 degree angle. You better know how to run a mill, cause if you screw up, good luck finding a 721 bolt. I'm not trying to talk you out of this, I just want you to know what you might encounter, so don't be shocked. I'm still trying to find that one individual who has actually seen a factory Remington extractor fail during a hunt. I will spend some time today trying to locate a factory extractor for your 721 for you.

You could make it up to her by buying that 257 Weatherby mag down in the classified section and tell her you wanted her to have the best, since you made a mistake

1st Cav Sarge: I dont know for sure. The current 700 extractor is much different from the earlier ones. My current parts list is difficult to decipher. I'm in the process of getting to the bottom of it, as we speak. Stand by for further details.

OK, from what I can tell, the rivetless 700 extractor (early style) is NOT the same as the 721 extractor. Unfortunately, I cannot get a clear enough view of the 721 extractor to be able to tell what's different about the two. However, I was able to come up with three companies that might have them. So here you go:
Marts Customs, Inc. 1-866-735-1230 (Ask for Joy)
Jack First, Inc., 605-343-8481
Bear Creek Guns, 509-697-9000 (Can probably custom make one for you, if not in stock)
Please let me know if these three can take care of you. I can make some phone calls and see if I can dig one up next week, if I need to. Take care and let us know how it works out for you.

Mine happens to be the one with the small ball/detent in it wouldn't ya know! Still lookin and thanks again.........Mike
