I couldn't agree with you more. I've heard it said that some rifles shoot better with a little bit of pressure from this "pad". Well, I've never seen one that did. I think that little pressure pad is Remington's quick fix to having to properly bed and float a rifle. It probably saves them $4 in production costs. LOL

Hey doorgunner...............well, I laid my hands on one of the new Remingtion Light Varmint rifles this afternoon. Real nice looking gun. But.............it couldn't compare to the Weatherby Super Predator that finally ended up in my truck! ;D Yep............I finally made the plung. Weatherby Super Predator in .223 is now sitting proudly on my reloading bench. Got a Luepold VARI -X III 6.5 X 20 scope just itching to be mounted. Now if this thing will shoot as good as it looks, I'll be a happy camper!! ;D Hooter

Hey Hooter, Congrats on the new coyote buster! Is this the one you are talking about.......holy coyote Batman.....you are talking custom rifle territory here...Krieger barrel and all... Built on the Mark V action for standard cartridges, the SPM is a lightweight 6 1/4 lbs. and features a 410 Series blackened stainless Criterion™ button-rifled barrel by Krieger™. The barrel sports longitudinal flutes to dissipate heat and is finished with an accuracy-enhancing 11-degree target crown. The SPM also features a specially-designed, hand-laminated, raised comb, Monte Carlo composite stock (a combination of Aramid, graphite unidirectional fibers and fiberglass) in distinctive tan with black spiderweb patterning. A CNC-machined aluminum bedding block stiffens the receiver area providing a solid, stable platform for the action while a Pachmayr® Decelerator® recoil pad reduces felt recoil.

That's the one Bobcat. I'm so happy I could scream! ;D The great thing about is that the wife helped pick it out. I was looking at the Remington Light Weight Varmint rifle and the Winchester Coyote. She saw the Weatherby sitting over to the side and pointed it out. She liked it better than the others, and well........that's all the help I needed in making up my mind. ;D I picked up some .223 brass and some 50 grain V-Max bullets to load up and try. Do you think the Luepold 6.5X20 would be a good scope to hang on it, or is it too much magnification? Man I'm pumped right now................ Hooter

Hooter: Your wife has very good taste. (In guns). You could of done a whole lot worse. That's one fine rifle you got there. You have good taste in glass as well. Every production rifle in America should have an H-S Precision stock on it. Just remember, if that rifle doesn't work out for you, I currently run a boarding house for wayward rifles, down here in San Antonio. ;D

Hey Hooter, That is one sweet rifle and one sweet wife......does she have a single aunt? If you are primarily going to hunt coyotes with it, I personally would put a 3-9x40, or maybe a 4-12x40 scope on it. This is just my personal preference. Good Hunting, Bob

Well Bobcat, I hope I get to help Dead Eye and BozoWise thin out the P. Dog population some also. I have a 3x9, but it is a gloss black and the 6.5x20 is matt like the rifle. It would look much better being all matt finish. Decisions..........decisions............decisions! Hooter

Thanks for the invite Hoot! Once I get these local yotes thinned out a little, I'll plan to head up your way.

I just bought one. Got a keyless bolt shroud replacement from Holland's and will have a friend touch up the trigger. It has been too cold to break in the barrel, but when I do, I expect it to be my very best rifle. I put a Leupold 6 - 20 X on it. I did not find the forward part of the stock flat, to me it is nice and round, good for carrying. I do not plan on free floating, the upward pressure on the forward part of the stock is designed to improve accuracy. Twist dictates 55 gr. bullets, no real long heavy ones. I will report more later.
