Bought one in 223 about 2 weeks ago. Worked the trigger, floated the barrel, mounted scope (Leupold 6-18, silver, 40 mm), sighted in w/Black Hills blue box 40 grainers. Shot REAL nice. Sold it.....LOL

Dang Bubbaokie! Didn't take you long to dispose of that rifle. May I ask why you sold it so fast? That gun has been on my final list of possibilities to purchase. Sounds like you had to put a lot of extra work into it to make it shoot.

speaking of light wt. rifles....... has anyone used the ruger compacts in 223 or 243. these would appear to be the ideal carry rifle. would the 16 inche tubes be a concern in regards to velocity loss.?

Hooter: Where did you see this rifle advertised at. I'm a frequent visitor to Remington Country, and I did not see it mentioned anywhere. The thought is mildly intriguing.
BubbaOkie: Tell us a little more about the details of this rifle, ie. adl or bdl floorplate, type of stock, barrel length and contour, etc..
Inquiring minds want to know!

Hmmmmm...Sounds like something that I might not be able to live without. I'm going to try to find one to look at this week. The $919 suggested retail tells me that your probably not going to be able to touch one for under about $800 in any local shops. I found it on the Remington website, and it indeed looks like nice rig. Remington indicates it's pillar bedded. I'd be curious to find out what the quality of the stock is, and just how well bedded that it is. $919 retail is getting up there near the Custom Shop prices.

I have one of the Light Weight Varmint rifles located and the price is $759. Looks like it would be a good dual purpose rifle for coyotes and P. Dogs. Comes in some good calibers also.

Have you taken a look at it yet? Is the stock the cheapy plastic Remington tupperware, or is it a quality stock, like the H-S Precision that they use on the varmint synthetic? I would think that with the fluted barrel, and a quality stock, that might indeed be a fair price.

I haven't had a chance to lay my hands on it yet doorgunner. I am planning on visiting the gun dealer this week. I will give it a good once over and let you know what it looks like. Hooter

doorgunner, If your ever up this way (Austin) McBrides has a couple. I have looked and held one. It is extremely light. I hear they shoot real well, but they are pricey! I think McBrides is asking 749.00 or 799.00 for them. Just in case you haven't found it on the Remmy site www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/700lvsf.htmthere are a couple of guys on GGVG that have posted pics of their groups... very small indeed!

I had about 750 + tax in mine. The stock is nice....not like the tupperware ones. It has the ADL type magazine (I prefer the drop-plate). The forend is kinda flat (could be bad or good, depending on likes, dislikes). The fluting was not spectacular. I always work the trigger, etc. before I wring one out. I had a friend wanting one who doesn't shoot much. He had told me if i got a chance to wring one out, he would be interested in it, if it shot good. SOOOOO, I did. I figured if he didn't want it, someone would. It shot good, but like I said, if it were for me, I would prefer the BDL type mag and would round off the forend a little. I put it together like I would use it, and he liked it, so I sold it to him. I prefer the "feel" of the Rem model 7 with the laminated stock. I have one in 260 and would probably spring for one if i could find one like it in ss 223. By the way, I only tried the one ammo type in it, and it shot 3 in about .6 at 100 yards. With a little work on loads, it would probably squeeze down. I have found that the Black Hills Ammo is pretty hard to beat for a "pre-loaded" ammo. I had bought a couple of cases a couple of years ago to go pd shootin when I ran out of time to reload and had 3-4 boxes left. Good Stuff.

Bubba, was the barrel free floated from the factory? I didn't get a chance to swing by a shot and look at one today. Hopefully this week.

The one I had, had what I call the "bumper pad" toward the end of the forend. Raised piece for barrel to "rest on". Some rifles may shoot better with these, but LOL, I'll never know if this one did. I like'em floatin.
