howdy all................
i was in a gun store today ( murf's guns , duncan, ok) and there on the rack was a like new savage m24. 223/ 12ga. had black synthetic stock and matt finish. atop was a cheap simmons scope. had three tubes and literature. and sling. i need to know maybe three things. the price was $275.00. is it worth it. how accurate are they and if the thing is sighted to print dead on a 100 yds. and u had to use the shotgun for close range work on varmints or turkeys would the pattern be "good enough".
okcoyote...........thanks
p.s. congrats to all u hog hunters......not much better than time spent with friends and those who share a common bond.

okcoyote............my Blue Book of Gun Values shows this as a Model 24F Predator. Does sound about right? If so, $275 is about 95% for just the gun alone. If it is in good condition and it's what you like, I would think it's a pretty good deal. I have never owned one of the M24's, but the concept was always an interesting one for a good combination gun. Heck you can always sell the Simmons and recover some of your cost. Hooter

I haven't been to Murf's in years!
As to the Savage......I don't know what it's worth, best bet is to check gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com and see if what they actually sell for, look for something that actually has bids on it, not what some seller is asking.
I have one question for you......have you ever actually called a predator in too close to kill it with a rifle? If not, why would you need the shotgun? Looks to me like you would be better off with a good rifle and low power scope......instead of the combo gun?? Just my 2 cents. Maybe you don't intend to use it for calling?

hey gonhuntin.................
i probable aint called in any that i could not have got with a rifle.....maybe one...last year i was callin a big beautiful draw with fingers goin out both south and west...had a north wind and really just sacrificed that area. just did not expect one from that direction. afteer about 8 minutes of calllin i hear somethin over to my side. i slowy turned for a look see and found myself starring into the beautiful hazel eyes of yote. probably could not have got shot off with a scatter gun.....needed a pistol......hmmmmm may have talked myself out of the savage....
thanks for the response......coyote out.

I better not find that gun sitting on a rack down here for that price. I would leave with it tucked under my arm. I'm not sure if that's a bargain price, but it would make a dandy jeep gun for me.

The rifle barrel is very accurate. I have only fired the shotgun barrel once and that was by accident on a calling stand. I can't tell you what kind of groups it shoots because I use iron sights. I call in heavy cover my close range, so this is perfect for my situation. I have ended my predator calling for the season, and by fall, I will have the shotgun patterned and ready to go. Bob

Hey Bob I can see the usefulness of the combo gun in close quarters combat with the "varmint cong" coyotes and cats that you describe....sounds like you crawl in the middle of them......ever thought of putting a bayonet on it? Might come in handy someday!
