Hi all,
I would like to have some input from any of you how have used the federal trophy bond 55gr and/ or the 64gr win power points out of a 223.
The reason i ask is that there are time and places that I can shoot hogs or jav's while out for yotes.
I used the 55 rem core lokt last year and had good results but would like some thing a little more stout.
I shot this both at the range last sunday and was get 2 hole 3 shot groups at 100 yrds. The rifle that I was shoot was a plain jane savage model 10.
Any input on these would be great. Or if someone has some thing else that they have used. I have yet to load any reloads but will start soon now that i have some fire formed brass.
Thanks for any input. Southtex

Hey Southtex,
I am not shooting a .223 anymore, but I use the 60gr. Partitions and #1365 55gr. Sierra Sptizer BT in my 22-250. I have taken many predators, hogs, and javelinas with both. With the hogs I just pop them right behind the ear. The TBBC bullets are execellent.....just very pricey. You may also want to try the new Barnes TSX 53 grain .224's. Midway is shipping them now. They should be VERY accurate and deadly in your .223. My 22-250 will shoot .75" with the Partitions and .50" with the Sierras.
Good Hunting,
Bob

Bobcat thanks,
You are right about the trophy bonds they are very pricey. i think that box of 20 was $24. But again i am going to reloading for the rifle soon.
What powder are you using? I have a pound of varget that I am plain to try.
Shooting Hogs in the ear is not problem that is where I try and shoot all of them no matter the caliber. The last one was with some 90gr sierra hp. in a .270 you would have thought that hog ran across a magnet she hit the gound so fast.
Thanks for the input. Southtex

Southex,
My Model 7 .223 liked 26.5grs. of Varget with the 55gr. Sierra bullet.
I never loaded the 60gr. Partitions in my .223 because they weren't making them yet.

sgt,
Thanks of the info. I have to change out the scope that is on the rifle and start working up some loads. I have a hunt planned the end of the month and really would like to take this rifle. I have not yet killed any varmints with the 223.
If i can't get the scope changed then I will be stuck using my 25-06 or 6mm rem.
The scope that is came with the rifle is a cheap simmons 3x9. I have a 3.5x10 loopy that is going on it.
If worse come to worse I will use factory loads for this hunt.
Thank again, Southtex
