I have the opportunity to buy a Bushmaster AR-15. Looks to be in good shape, but I don't know much about the M-16 clones and haven't shot one since my Uncle (Sam, that is) gave me one back in 1971 . Guess my concerns are materials of construction, parts manufacturing tolerances, and accuracy. It has the short stock, iron sights and a laser (which is kind of cool...) Quoted price is $650. Anybody with one of these EBR's care to opine or pontificate ?........... Thanks. Jim

You diddent say if it had a flat top or carry handol recever. short butt usualy means short barrol. I shoot a colt I hate the carry handol and will replace asap I like the short barrol (18 to 20 inch) Good calling gun plenty acurate The price sounds vary good See if thay will let you take it out and test drive it Good hunting Kevin

Hey ICM,
The Bushmaster is as good as any of them. Does your term "short stock" mean collapseable or folding stock? If it does collapse and extend then the gun had better be a "pre-ban" serial number. "Post-ban" guns should not have the collapse style stock. Federal authority problems could occur. The problem is that you can purchase the collapse style and it will fit , no problem. It just makes your gun illegal. A lot of guys do it not knowing the law. Of course innocent mistakes and not knowing the law are no excuse to some of those enforcement guys. Easy to make a mistake.
Some of them have the appearance of collapse style, but they are fixed. Those are OK on "Post-ban" rifles.
Now, gettin past that, it would be hard to go wrong for that price. Even if you had to put a barrel on it, or the proper stock. Shoot it first if you can.

FWIW, there is a reason the Olympics are less expensive. The recievers are O.K. but I grew tired of sending trigger parts back, again and again and...... Bushmaster kits work well, I've only built one DPMS but it seemed O.K.

Bushy, DPMS, Olympic, Rock River Arms all make good stuff. I currently have a Bushy V-Match and a DPMS pre-ban I built on an Eagle lower. Both run great. I use the Bushy for calling and prairie dogs. (You can never have too many rounds when the prairie dogs charge ). That price sounds very good for the Bushmaster. If it runs well and is in good shape, I think you would be happy with it. Paul

Ok,
I have had great luck with the DPMS but I feel that overall the Bushmaster is a better product. Just look at the casting marks on the two lowers and you will see what I mean.

Hey if that Bushy is still there and you don't want it send me an e-mail. That is a darn good price and a fella can make a few bucks.
I don't know how a guy could go wrong at that price.
Byron South got me on to shooting an AR, after uncle sam days I said I'd never have one of them d**n things and now I have two and am working on getting a Georgia percition upper with a Douglass fluted air gauged barrel.. The accuricy is far better than I ever thought was possable and frankly I was shocked by how tight a group I can shoot with my Bushys

Sorry Sly - the rifle was sold earlier this week. Probably a good thing for me - no more temptation - at least til the next good deal on an EBR comes around.........
I had a touch of sleeplessness last night and looked at the prices of the Bushy's on Auction Arms at about 3 AM - much higher there than I was quoted last week.
